Jonathan Tropper’s work as a novelist, short story writer, and television producer impressed me greatly,” Hamm stated at the series premiere. “I was confident he could create an atmosphere, a narrative, and a visual style that would captivate viewers temporarily, while being intelligent, humorous, and encompassing all aspects I enjoy.

Additionally, he mentioned that his partnership with Tropper, the originator, gave him a sense of being well looked after. Furthermore, as an executive producer, he could express his disapproval by stating “I’m not too fond of this; let’s work on improving it,” which the actor from Top Gun: Maverick shared was a comfortable position to be in.

With Trooper, there’s a shared sentiment. “He has an ineffable quality that I can’t quite put my finger on,” Tropper expressed. “It’s the intelligence and humanity he exudes that makes you want him to succeed, even when his actions might not be admirable.” Tropper required an actor who could keep the audience engaged despite some questionable decisions made by the character.

In terms of the casting process, Hamm’s leadership transformed Tropper’s experience from being merely helpful into something truly extraordinary.

I desire more from him, yet he’s unwilling to reciprocate, leading to many unfulfilled feelings on my part.
