Jon Hamm to Lead ‘American Hostage’ Anthology Series at MGM+

Jon Hamm is adding another series to his schedule.

Award-winning actor will feature in and co-manage the upcoming anthology series titled “American Hostage” on MGM+. This production hails from Sony Pictures Television and the creative minds behind shows like “The Night Agent“, “The Shield“, “Big Love“, and “Mad Dogs“, namely Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers. The series is adapted from a podcast with the same title, where Hamm was also part of the cast during its first season.

The upcoming eight-episode series, inspired by real events, is backdropped by 1970s Indianapolis. In this narrative, Michael Hamm portrays Fred Heckman, a well-liked radio broadcaster who becomes embroiled in a critical predicament when a man named Tony Kiritsis captures a hostage and insists on acquiring broadcasting time through Heckman’s show.

Michael Wright, head of MGM+, praised the collaboration between prolific producers Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, talented actor Jon Hamm, and their partners at Sony Pictures Television, calling it a perfect match. He expressed his excitement about this project, which tells a gripping story about real individuals dealing with a hostage crisis in real-time, stating that there is no better actor to lead the narrative than Jon Hamm.

Speaking about the production of the show, Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards their collaborators – MGM+, Shawn Ryan, Eileen Myers, and Jon Hamm. She noted that “American Hostage” offers a compelling portrayal of quiet heroism, shedding light on our societal dynamics and unveiling enduring truths.

The film titled “American Hostage” will be shooting in Canada this fall, further crowding Jon Hamm’s busy calendar. The esteemed actor is currently appearing in the series “Your Friends and Neighbors” on Apple TV+, which has recently been given a green light for a second season by the streaming platform. Additionally, he appeared in the inaugural season of “Landman” on Paramount+ this year; other recent roles include his stints on FX’s “Fargo” and Apple’s “The Morning Show”.

Ryan, Myers, and Hamm, along with Connie Tavel, Sharon Hoffman, Marney Hochman (Ryan’s partner at MiddKid Productions), and Shawn Christensen and Gabriel Mason from Criminal Content, will serve as executive producers for the show titled American Hostage.

Hamm, Ryan, and Myers are all represented by different talent agencies: Hamm by CAA, Forward Entertainment, and Sloane Offer; Ryan by CAA, The Shuman Co., and Gendler & Kelly; and Myers by UTA, 3 Arts, and Jackoway Austen.
