A notable group of comedians is teaming up in New York City to generate funds for wildfire relief and restoration projects across the country.
Charity organization Comic Relief USA, dedicated to ending poverty cycles, is organizing “Comic Relief: Stand-Up for L.A.” – a live comedy night happening at New York’s Town Hall on March 3. This event aims to raise funds, with famous comedians like Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Ramy Youssef, Chris Distefano, Desi Lydic, Hannah Berner, and Josh Johnson (among others yet to be announced) set to perform stand-up routines. The money collected will support Comic Relief USA’s local partners in Los Angeles who are actively addressing the needs of underprivileged communities.
Michele Ganeless, CEO of Comic Relief, stated that the devastation from the L.A. fires is nearly incomprehensible, and the long-term effects on children and underprivileged communities are even more severe. This catastrophe has intensified existing problems such as homelessness and hunger, and it has disrupted youth education, which increases socioeconomic instability and vulnerability. The rebuilding process isn’t just about the present; we must take action to ensure that families have the resources they need not only to recover but also to prosper for many years ahead.
In addition, the event at Second City is a comedy night, where the profits will aid Comic Relief’s disaster relief and rebuilding initiatives. You can now purchase tickets for Comic Relief Presents: LA’s Stand-Up Comedy Show.
