Jon Stewart Assures Election Night Viewers: “I Promise This Is Not the End”

As a seasoned gamer with a lifetime of virtual battles and victories under my belt, I can confidently say that Jon Stewart’s words resonate deeply with me. The presidential election night may have seemed like the final boss level, but it’s just another challenging stage in our ongoing quest for a better world.

On Tuesday night, Jon Stewart wrapped up his live election broadcast with a few comforting words for those of you who were feeling down after watching The Daily Show.

The presenter made clear that the presidential election results were still being counted and no outcome had been determined as of yet. However, since the votes seemed to be indicating a win for Donald Trump by midnight, Stewart began sharing his reflections.

Stewart asserted during his Comedy Central special, “The Daily Show Presents A Live Election Night Special With Jon Stewart: Indecision 2024: Nothing We Can Do About It Now” (video below), “This isn’t the end. I guarantee you, we need to regroup and keep fighting, working tirelessly every day to build a better world for our kids, for humanity, for this nation – a world we know can be improved. It’s achievable.

After the election, we’ll likely make many declarations about what our country and the world are, but the reality is, we won’t truly know much. We might appear as if this is the culmination of civilization, but the truth is, we’ll all need to put in a tremendous effort tomorrow to shape the world into the place we want it to be.

Additionally, the host criticized both pollsters and commentators, initially targeting the pollsters who, as previously mentioned, may have underestimated the contest once more. For several weeks, they had been predicting that the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump was significantly closer than the early election night outcomes would later indicate.

Stewart expressed a strong desire to briefly convey a firm message to all the election pollsters: “I have no interest in ever receiving your insights again. Period. You lack understanding on any subject. I don’t want to hear, ‘We’ll understand it better next year, oh we were close within the margin of—’, just forget it.

Afterwards, he criticized analysts for their mistaken presumptions, based on past presidential elections.

He made it clear that the interpretations our commentators will draw from these results, which they’ll declare with absolute certainty, are likely to be inaccurate,” he noted, and then showed examples of pundits forecasting after past elections, such as the election of Barack Obama suggesting a post-racial America. “Well, that idea didn’t last long,” he added with a touch of sarcasm.

In a different segment, an analyst stated that the takeaway from 2012 was for the Republican Party to demonstrate strong regard towards Hispanic voters through their actions. However, this was immediately contrasted with a clip showing Donald Trump making fun of Mexico.

Throughout the hour-long broadcast, Stewart aimed to maintain a positive atmosphere by displaying Democrats’ victory in various races, including Harris winning New York and New Jersey. However, it became apparent early on that things weren’t going smoothly when Stewart unexpectedly announced that Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman had canceled his appearance on the show at the very last minute.

Stewart acknowledged, “I understand many of you are experiencing apprehension.” He continued, “Please be reassured, your feelings contribute positively to our viewership, so keep doing what you’re doing.
