Jon Stewart Mocks Fox News’ Coverage of DNC: “I’m Not Sure They Cared for It”

As a longtime fan of Jon Stewart and a connoisseur of political satire, I can wholeheartedly say that Thursday night’s episode of The Daily Show was a masterclass in skewering the hypocrisy and inconsistency of Fox News. It’s always a treat to watch Stewart dissect the absurdities of the right-wing media landscape with his razor-sharp wit and biting humor.

On Thursday evening, Jon Stewart took aim at Fox News’ portrayal of the Democratic National Convention, poking fun at their seemingly contradictory representation of the event’s enthusiastic atmosphere.

Stewart inquired about Fox News’ initial reaction towards the convention on “The Daily Show”, broadcasted live from Chicago directly after the DNC ended. He expressed, “Admit it, I think they didn’t really enjoy it.”

Subsequently, the program aired a series of clips featuring Fox News commentators expressing their feelings about the convention hall being “devoid of much enthusiasm” and having an overall “unsettling atmosphere.” In one segment, Jesse Watters stated, “This is undoubtedly the most tedious spectacle I’ve ever witnessed throughout my existence.”

Stewart replied with a sigh, “You know, it’s always the same thing for me – it feels so mundane. I sometimes forget that someone as thrilling as you lives an endless rollercoaster of conversations with Brit Hume sandwiched between catheter commercials.”

The Democratic National Committee concluded their four-night extravaganza on Thursday evening, culminating in a boisterous gathering that showcased enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz pairing. Throughout the week, themes of joy have been prevalent, with speakers like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey praising the Democratic nominee for their campaign’s optimistic vibe.

After calling Watters “Jesse Knievel,” Stewart continued by playing additional footage from Fox News, which highlighted the network’s executives modifying their stance. One clip showed a commentator remarking, “people are really enjoying themselves” immediately following Stevie Wonder’s performance.

Not everything was turned around, though. “They had a problem on this night as well,” Stewart said, and played clips of more Fox leaders saying “all the joy, all the vibes, all the emotion, it’s nothing but empty calories. They burn fast and make you fat.”

In another clip, a commentator said, “You’re not going to eat good vibes, right?”

Stewart glanced at the crowd with a touch of wry annoyance, then remarked, “Are these good vibes responsible for your weight gain, or are they acting like an emotional weight-loss drug?”

He went on to say, “It seems you’re correct. After all, sustenance for a family doesn’t come from positive energy alone. What nourishes a family is the security provided by immigration policies and the assurance derived from addressing concerns about safety.”

Towards the closing of the broadcast, Watters found Stewart again, who persisted with his opinion that the atmosphere at the DNC remained subdued throughout the event. At one instance, he commented, “Last night wasn’t as celebratory as the media suggests… the queues to enter the stadium were lengthy and quiet. The only excitement inside was from Joy Reid.”

Meanwhile, Fox News aired footage from the bustling, lively convention, allowing viewers a glimpse into the gathering that was brimming with enthusiastic supporters.

According to Watters, he persisted with the act of feigning that the convention was struggling, despite video evidence being nearby.
