Josh Allen and Daniel Ricciardo on Buying a Racehorse, Their “Bromance” and Respective Sports

As a fan, I’m absolutely thrilled to see two successful and charismatic figures like Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo teaming up for a new Beats campaign! The “Legend of Ricallen” short film is not only a testament to their off-field camaraderie but also a unique collaboration that showcases their playful banter and friendship.

Josh Allen from the Buffalo Bills football team and Daniel Ricciardo, a Formula One race car driver, are preparing for their next project: In this imaginative scenario, they’ll co-own a fictitious racehorse together. Despite being friends in reality, they embark on an amusing adventure depicted in Beats’ new short film campaign called “The Legend of Ricallen.”

“I’m now known as ‘Ric the Legend.’ Sadly, there’s no longer a Ricallen,” I quip during a lighthearted video chat with The Hollywood Reporter, as my co-star regrettably couldn’t join us.

In a new six-and-a-half-minute short film released by Beats on Wednesday, we find the friends, Allen and Ricciardo, discussing ways to deepen their friendship over a Facetime call. Allen playfully suggests buying a soccer team, mimicking Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s actions. After some thought, they decide instead on purchasing a racehorse together.

I’ve always been a huge fan of both Allen and Ricciardo, admiring their successes in their respective fields. It was an exciting surprise when I learned that they would be teaming up for the first time ever in “The Legend of Ricallen.” Yet, what made this collaboration even more intriguing to me is the fact that they’ve been friends long before they decided to join forces.

“Over the past few years, Josh and I have developed a strong friendship, some might even call it a ‘bromance,'” Ricciardo describes. Allen echoes this sentiment, stating to THR, “I’ve known DR (Ricciardo) for several years now, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had.”

An Australian Formula One racer shared that the concept for the short film emerged from their collaborations with Beats. Upon hearing the proposal, he was eager to agree. According to Ricciardo, filming the project with Allen was “the most enjoyable day at work, hands down.”

Allen, similar to Ricciardo, throws himself into the video production and expresses his enjoyment throughout. “Working with Ricardo on ‘Ricallen’ has been a distinctive journey,” shares the quarterback. “From the initial planning stage to the highly anticipated unveiling of the completed project, I’ve relished every moment. The innovative aspects of this collaboration have given us both ample opportunities to enjoy ourselves, which will undeniably shine through once it is broadcasted.”

In their playful video, Ricciardo shares that he and his friend’s camaraderie is evident despite the absurdity. He explains, “We took turns trying to tease each other lightly, creating a fun dynamic.”

Both Allen and Ricciardo have made their acting debuts, but they haven’t rested on their laurels. In their primary jobs, Allen is the Buffalo Bills quarterback, and Ricciardo is the Formula One racecar driver for RB team.

Allen kicked off his training camp experience with the Buffalo Bills today, expressing his enthusiasm to THR earlier in the week. “I’m really looking forward to the season,” he shared, “and I can’t wait to collaborate with this talented team.”

Dan Ricciardo, currently racing with Red Bull’s F1 team, was already recognized in the Formula One community when Netflix’s “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” debuted. In the six seasons of the show, the Australian driver stood out and gained a large following among viewers, which brought him additional chances outside of racing. Ricciardo acknowledges that some people may have certain views about participating in projects like this one.

“According to some, these activities are considered distractions,” Ricciardo clarifies. “But I make a distinction. There are indeed distractions, but then there are beneficial distractions that not only keep us engaged, but also stimulate our minds in a refreshing and revitalizing manner without exhausting us.”

As an avid F1 fan, I can tell you that for me, joining “The Legend of Ricallen” was all about embracing something new and exciting. Personally, I’m always up for trying out fresh experiences, even if they push me slightly beyond my comfort zone. And let me tell you, in such situations, you discover things about yourself that you never knew before!

As a gamer, I’m excitedly looking forward to the upcoming F1 summer break. But before that, Ricciardo shares with THR in an interview before the Hungarian Grand Prix that he’s “been feeling great and in top form.”

The driver expresses his fondness for summer, stating, “I truly enjoy this part of the year – the summer. These upcoming races in Hungary and Belgium are particularly important. While every contest aims for success, these two events hold significant weight before the summer recess.”

During the summer break, Ricciardo adds, “a lot transpires naturally.” The driver market is in constant flux, and there’s always plenty of conversation. Therefore, it’s crucial to make a positive impact.

The driver remarks, “I’ve put in a lot of effort into practicing and preparing. I hope this pays off with some excellent outcomes.”

Allen and Ricciardo, in collaboration with Beats and the F1 drivers’ clothing brand Enchanté, will soon be offering “The Legend of Ricallen” merchandise for sale. This collection includes a T-shirt, bandana, and trucker hat, which can be pre-ordered on their website.
