JPEGMAFIA Unleashes “PROTECT THE CROSS”

JPEGMAFIA’s album titled “I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU” (released in August), which is his fifth studio project, has reached a pinnacle for Peggy. This work showcases his extraordinary talent for merging real-world (IRL) and online (URL) experiences. It highlights his skill at blending nostalgic, soulful samples with contemporary internet-era production. However, JPEGMAFIA isn’t fully done with “I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU” as he has announced plans to extend the album even further on what he’s calling the “Director’s Cut” edition of the LP.

The revamped “deluxe” version will encompass 12 fresh tracks, with some of these tunes being previously recorded during the album sessions and added to the initial playlist, while others are entirely new songs collected on a separate second disc. Originally, Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, and Buzzy Lee contributed to this album, but it’s uncertain whether any new artists will be featured in the Director’s Cut.

Nonetheless, we were privileged to catch a sneak peek of the Director’s Cut version of the project, featuring the debut single titled “PROTECT THE CROSS.” On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Peggy unveiled this track to the public. The song aligns perfectly with the sound profile of I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, relying on intense rock and roll elements and powerful instrumentation. Accompanying the single is a video that Peggy describes as an “examination” of patriotism.
