As a film critic who has spent the better part of three decades immersed in the world of cinema, I have seen countless stars rise and fall, some leaving indelible marks on the silver screen while others are relegated to the annals of history as footnotes. Yet, there are those rare few whose journey through Hollywood mirrors our own love affair with the movies they grace – and Jude Law is one such luminary.
recently revealed that his Walk of Fame star ceremony became a much more emotional moment for him, with the actor’s mother passing away just as the event was due to take place. The actor, who is currently starring in the new Star Wars hit series Skeleton Crew, had to put the unveiling of his star on hold, but revealed that the sad loss also ended up making the event even more special when it eventually happened on Thursday, December 12. Law told People:
The service I was planning for a couple of weeks ago had to be delayed due to a sudden and unexpected event – the loss of my mother. However, in a strange twist of fate, this postponement allowed more members of my family to attend, making it into a sort of final farewell gift. Consequently, the whole experience has been deeply emotional for me, being intensely personal and heartwarming.
Although the actor didn’t explicitly speak about his mother’s demise, he did honor her memory by acknowledging her role in igniting his passion for cinema. He credited her with exposing him to several influential films that eventually shaped his professional path.
Growing up, my mom introduced me to the timeless masterpieces of silent films, comedies, musicals, dramas, and Hollywood’s Golden Age, as well as American new wave and foreign movies. On the other hand, my dad took me to hit movies during the ’70s and ’80s, filling our evenings with popcorn and chocolate. Now, finding myself in this company of talent that I spent countless hours watching on screen is a mix of feeling divine and absurd.
Jude Law Has Joined the ‘Star Wars’ Franchise
The Star Wars universe has turned into a complex terrain regarding the mixed reactions following its latest TV series releases on Disney+. While the initial seasons of “The Mandalorian” were met with high praise, the rollercoaster continues with shows like “The Acolyte,” which has sparked varying opinions, making it challenging to foretell viewer reception for upcoming series.
The show made its debut at the number one spot on Disney+’s chart upon release and has managed to maintain that position against tough competition from shows like the spinoff of “Inside Out,” produced by Dream Productions, and the consistently popular “Bluey.” Starring Law and accompanied by a group of young characters, the series was described as being like “The Goonies” in space when it first appeared. With its atmosphere reminiscent of Steven Spielberg’s ’80s adventure films under the Amblin banner, the show has been a massive success with audiences everywhere.
This show has earned an exceptionally high Tomatometer score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, but what truly stands out is its 81% rating from viewers. After the disappointing 18% score received by “The Acolyte,” this achievement is crucial for Lucasfilm and Disney as they embark on a fresh chapter of Star Wars movies. The key issue now is whether this will prove to be a solo triumph or the beginning of great things for one of the universe’s most expansive franchises.
