In this sequence, characters like Alan Grant and the children would have embarked on a raft adventure, only to be pursued by a rampaging T. Rex along the river. This terrifying chase would culminate in a stampede, heightening the sense of danger. To add insult to injury, the raft would eventually approach a waterfall.

In the original “Jurassic Park”, certain river scenes were initially captured, but ultimately deleted from the final cut. However, these scenes are now being resurrected in “Jurassic World: Dominion”. The trailers for the upcoming movie seem to echo the original chase sequence. Although it’s clear that the scene will have some modifications because “Jurassic World: Dominion” introduces new characters in a fresh setting, it’s gratifying to see this classic moment come back in some form.

It’s unfortunate that the river boat attack scene didn’t make it into the final cut of “Jurassic Park”. Interestingly, screenwriter David Koepp had reservations about including this sequence in the movie due to story-related concerns. In the book “The Making of Jurassic Park: An Adventure 65 million Years in the Making”, Koepp stated this himself.

I found the raft sequence unnecessary. At times throughout the book, it felt like we were forced to see every dinosaur in the park, which I believed should’ve led to complete chaos once the park malfunctioned. To me, the raft trip seemed repetitive. Therefore, I saw it as a straightforward decision to remove it, especially considering how costly it would be.

It appears that the high costs associated with using the T. Rex in a more intricate and wet setting were the primary factors leading to the decision to remove the scene from Jurassic Park, given its already substantial budget and the redundant nature of the sequence.

& It Fixes The Scene’s Original Problem

Instead of mirroring the original Jurassic Park river chase scene, the upcoming sequence in Jurassic World Rebirth seems set to rival some of its best action. The T. Rex overturning the river boat and pursuing its passengers is undeniably nerve-wracking, enhancing the terror that’s a hallmark of this franchise. Moreover, an out-of-control raft promises a heart-pounding ride, and the addition of dinosaurs only amplifies the tension.

Even though Jurassic World: Rebirth hasn’t been released yet, its plot suggests that it may have addressed the issue David Koepp had with the original scene. Unlike Jurassic Park, where the characters were running away from dinosaurs, Jurassic World: Rebirth appears to focus on the characters trying to approach the dinosaurs to collect their DNA. As such, it seems plausible that the characters would get a closer look at most of the island’s dinosaurs. Moreover, considering this is a research island, it’s possible that the river boats aren’t for leisure but rather for transportation purposes. This could explain why the characters might find themselves on rafts in Jurassic World: Rebirth, as there would be a better story justification for their presence compared to a theme park setting.
