The ending of Jurassic World Rebirth, explained
The primary motivation for the story Rebirth revolves around a secretive quest: retrieving DNA samples from three distinct dinosaurs. These samples will be utilized by pharmaceutical company ParkerGenix in the development of a groundbreaking drug aimed at curing heart disease, potentially saving countless human lives. To accomplish this mission, ParkerGenix representative Krebs (Rupert Friend) enlists the help of covert operations specialist Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey). Their task: assemble a team and venture to an equatorial region where dinosaurs still exist, not just surviving but actually flourishing.
The situation becomes increasingly complex when the team comes across the Delgado family, who were stranded near Ile Saint-Hubert following a dinosaur attack. This island was previously an InGen research facility before the Jurassic World theme park shut down. Zora and her leader, Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali), decide to help them, eventually guiding them to safety. During a pursuit involving numerous aquatic and amphibious dinosaurs, the oldest Delgado daughter, Teresa (Luna Blaise), falls from the team’s boat after being pushed by Krebs when she tried to call for help. Unfortunately, he doesn’t manage to save her, hoping that her death would mean no one learns about his attempts to keep the operation a secret, even if it means sacrificing human lives.
When Kincaid’s boat collides with Saint-Hubert, the team and family are split up, leaving Zora and Kincaid unaware of Krebs’ actions. Despite losing nearly everyone else from the team, they successfully retrieve all three samples. They head towards an old Ingen facility helipad, where Zora had arranged for a helicopter to wait for two minutes before departing if no survivors were spotted. Eventually, the Delgado family and the rest of the team reassemble at the facility, with Teresa disclosing Krebs’ actions. Remaining calm, Krebs brandishes a firearm, pushing everyone back as he cuffs the case containing the samples to his wrist. Just then, mutated dinosaurs from the InGen facility assault the humans, causing them to flee into underground drainage tunnels while Krebs attempts to escape in a vehicle found within the facility grounds.

The helicopter lands at the critical moment when the largest mutant created by InGen, the terrifying D-Rex, assaults the team, damaging the helicopter in the process. Krebs is chased and devoured by the D-Rex, dropping a case containing the sample in the process. The survivors – Zora, Kincaid, Loomis, and the Delgado family – flee towards an old boat moored nearby. In a desperate attempt to save the Delgado children, Kincaid manages to distract the D-Rex from the dock, giving Zora enough time to detach the boat and set sail. As they depart the island, they spot a flare rising along the coast, realizing that Kincaid has remarkably survived his confrontation with the D-Rex.
The group retrieves Kincaid and together, they set off towards their destination. On board their vessel, Zora and Loomis concur to create an open-source recipe for the heart disease remedy, using samples they’ve gathered. This means it will be available free of charge globally for anyone to use.
In essence, the Jurassic universe now presents a fresh opportunity for filmmakers to explore, given the revelation that dinosaur DNA can have applications in human medicine. The dinosaurs, particularly those on Ile Saint-Hubert and other locations, continue to exist, opening up possibilities for more tales to be woven. So, the future for Jurassic World is expansive, and with Rebirth serving as a starting point, it could potentially mark just the beginning of new narratives.
