Jurassic World: Rebirth Named Most Anticipated Movie of Summer 2025!

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m buzzing with excitement as the summer movie season is almost upon us! Fandango recently unveiled the most eagerly awaited summer flick, and you might be taken aback by the top pick – 2025 promises to be a blockbuster summer, with the July showdown between Warner Bros. and DC’s Superman going head-to-head against Disney and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, both premiering just two weeks apart! Add to that the highly anticipated Tom Cruise vs Stitch rematch over Memorial Day weekend, and original productions like F1, Elio, and Materialists; there’s no shortage of captivating choices for moviegoers this summer.

1. Jurassic World: Rebirth
2. Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps
3. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
4. DC Studios’ Superman
5. Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts
6. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
7. 28 Years Later
8. Live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon
9. Live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch
10. Freakier Friday

  1. Jurassic World: Rebirth – Jul. 2
  2. The Fantastic Four: First Steps – Jul. 25
  3. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – May 23
  4. Superman– Jul. 11
  5. Thunderbolts* – May 2
  6. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina – Jun. 6
  7. 28 Years Later – Jun. 20
  8. How to Train Your Dragon – Jun. 13
  9. Lilo & Stitch – May 23
  10. Freakier Friday – Aug. 8

Among the noteworthy titles absent from the list are the movies “F1” starring Brad Pitt, “Elio” by Pixar, and “The Karate Kid: Legends” from Sony Pictures. Another intriguing observation is that “28 Years Later” is the sole horror film in the Top 10, surpassing other horror sequels such as “Final Destination Bloodlines” (May 16), “M3GAN 2.0” (Jun. 27), and the next installment of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series (Jul.18). The first quarter of summer has an equal distribution with May, June, and July each featuring three films, while August only has one film titled “Freakier Friday.”

The Road to #1 is Far from Over

It’s important to keep in mind that a movie’s position on Fandango’s list doesn’t necessarily predict its success during the summer season. For instance, the Summer Movie Preview winner for 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, earned an impressive $1.3 billion worldwide but was still outperformed by Inside Out 2 at the box office, despite ranking fifth on Fandango’s list. Conversely, movies such as The Fall Guy, The Garfield Movie, The Watchers, and Borderlands were all highly anticipated according to Fandango’s summer movie list for 2024, but none of them made it into the top 10 highest-grossing films that summer. Titles like Twisters, Alien: Romulus, and IF did not appear in Fandango’s polls at all.

Despite the expectation that Jurassic World: Rebirth will dominate this summer, the battle for the top spot remains fierce. Although it’s commonly believed that Jurassic World: Rebirth will reign supreme, history shows that the Jurassic Park franchise isn’t invincible. For instance, in 2001, Jurassic Park III was overshadowed by other summer blockbusters like Shrek, The Mummy Returns, Rush Hour 2, and Pearl Harbor. Upcoming films like Superman or The Fantastic Four: First Steps could give it a run for its money in the upcoming months as their marketing strategies gain momentum. Even the impressive trailer numbers for Lilo & Stitch hint that it might outperform these predictions at the box office. CinemaCon is approaching, and we’ll soon see new trailers for some of the summer’s most anticipated movies, which could reshape public opinion about their potential success.
