Justin Kurzel’s Neo-Nazi Thriller ‘The Order’ Debuts at Venice Film Festival With Lengthy Standing Ovation

As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for both the virtual and real-world battles, I must say the premiere of “The Order” at the Venice Film Festival has piqued my interest significantly. With a background that spans from battling Nazis in World War II to tackling modern-day terrorists in online multiplayer games, I find myself drawn to stories that delve into the darker corners of humanity.

On Saturday evening, the Venice Film Festival unveiled Justin Kurzel’s latest neo-Nazi crime thriller, “The Order,” at the Lido. The viewers in Palazzo del Cinema’s Sala Grande gave a thunderous standing ovation to stars Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult following the screening of this grim story, expressing their admiration with great enthusiasm.

The applause lasted over seven minutes straight, with Law and Hoult reciprocating by hugging each other and waving their hands towards the crowd below to express gratitude for their warm welcome.

The story of The Order is influenced by the non-fiction book titled “The Silent Brotherhood: An Inside Account of America’s Violent, Anti-Government Militia Movement“, written by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. This book was first published on January 1, 1989, under the Free Press, with a revised edition coming out on July 14, 2018.

According to official accounts, the organization known as The Silent Brotherhood drew in ordinary individuals who shared their passion for racial pride, family values, and religious devotion, and they claimed to protect white, Christian America from a perceived communist threat. This group is considered one of the most dangerous extremist hate groups since the Ku Klux Klan.

The movie, penned by Zach Baylin, centers around an FBI probe into a string of bank robberies and car thefts in the Pacific Northwest region. A solitary FBI agent, Terry Husk (played by Jude Law), suspects that these crimes are orchestrated by a hazardous gang of domestic terrorists. Over time, his investigation uncovers links to a white supremacist organization headed by the captivating leader Bob Mathews (portrayed by Nicholas Hoult). Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, and Marc Maron complete the ensemble cast of this thrilling film titled “The Terminal List”.

Before unveiling their film The Order on the Sala Grande screen, the team held a late-afternoon press conference with the media. During this event, Law discussed the connections between the past and the present. “Unfortunately,” he said, “the significance is apparent.” He also expressed that it felt like a project that needed to be completed right now. “It’s intriguing when you find something from the past that has some connection to the current day,” he added.

Hoult added, “Perhaps the movie will offer greater insight into how such incidents transpire and who’s behind them. If viewed by many, it might help reduce their occurrence in the future.”

The publication “The Order” has been made available by Vertical in the United States during December, while Amazon Prime Video is managing its distribution across various international regions.
