Kalen Gorman, Producer of Behind-the-Scenes Content for ‘Glee,’ Dies at 59

As a gamer who has grown up with the digital age, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss for Kalen Gorman. Her contributions to the world of entertainment, particularly behind-the-scenes content for some of my favorite shows like Glee and Homeland, have not only enriched these stories but also brought fans closer to the action.

Kalen Gorman, the creator of interviews and exclusive content behind the scenes for Ryan Murphy’s hit show Glee, which accumulated over 200 million views across various platforms, has sadly passed away. She was 59 years old.

Gorman passed away on Tuesday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following a struggle against breast cancer, as confirmed by their representative.

During the initial five seasons of Glee (from 2009 to 2014), Gorman worked alongside actors, hosts, show developers, and production teams on both scripted and spontaneous promotional shoots. The result was over 300 content pieces for each episode.

In a conversation back in April, she expressed that she had believed all along that the devoted fans of this series yearn for exactly such scenes. They desire to be immersed, to feel as if they’re an integral part of it.

Later on, Gorman created additional content offering insights into the production process for the initial season of Murphy’s anthology series “Feud”, featuring Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford. Additionally, he also provided such content for Showtime’s “Homeland”.

Hailing from Toronto and growing up in Los Angeles, Gorman launched her professional journey working under the esteemed publicist Pat Kingsley at PMK Public Relations. In 1999, she switched gears and joined the television industry, serving as a senior talent executive on Martin Short’s syndicated talk show that ran from 1999 to 2000.

After stints as a segment producer for NBCUniversal, E!, Hurwitz Creative, I eventually found my way to Fox in 2008. There, I contributed to shows like “Bones,” “The Mindy Project,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” but it was “Glee” that became my primary focus.

Lately, Gorman has been employed at All3Media America, Discovery, and Studio71. During this time, she oversaw production and direction for the Snapchat series “Keepin’ It Real With Keke Palmer”, “Step by Step With Matt Steffanina”, “Worst Firsts With Brittany Furlan”, and the Facebook Watch program “Ladies First With Grace Helbig”.

She also co-created the VH1 series You Rock With …

She has no survivors. Her brother, animation writer Alexx Van Dyne, died in May 2023 at age 61.
