As an ardent fan of Kareena Kapoor, I find myself utterly captivated by her latest performance in The Buckingham Murders. With 25 years under her belt and countless stellar performances, it is truly astounding to hear that Hansal Mehta considers this role as her career’s best, and I wholeheartedly agree!
Kareena Kapoor and Hansal Mehta teamed up to create the mystery-thriller “The Buckingham Murders,” which hit screens in September. This release marked a significant milestone for Kareena, being her 25th year in the film industry. Although Bebo has delivered numerous outstanding performances throughout her career, director Hansal Mehta considers her performance in this investigative thriller to be her best yet. He feels that she is still not given enough opportunities to showcase her full potential.
During a chat with News 18 Showsha, Hansal Mehta spoke about Kareena Kapoor’s acclaim for The Buckingham Murders, stating that this is merely the start of showcasing her true talent. In his opinion, there’s much more to Kareena’s acting abilities that the world has yet to witness.
He said, “I’ve always felt that Kareena is a vastly underutilized actor. She’s a big star, but as an actor, I feel there’s a lot more. There’s a huge reservoir that the world is yet to see. I feel this is the beginning and yes, when people say it’s a career-best performance — without sounding too vain — I also believe so.”
As an ardent admirer, let me share how the illustrious director, whose work has garnered National Awards, reminisced about Mehta during our Chhalaang shoot in 2018. It was then that he first heard the tale that would later captivate us all. Intrigued, he eagerly signed the actress to bring this story to life the following year, 2019. The brilliant co-writer of Chhalaang, Aseem Arrora, shared this idea with him, and eventually, it found its way to Ekta Kapoor’s hands.
In a subsequent development, the skilled movie producer secured the services of the filmmaker for the project, and later in 2020, amidst the pandemic, Ekta arranged a Zoom meeting involving him and Bebo. As Mehta disclosed, Kareena had previously made up her mind to star in the film after reading a brief synopsis (10-15 pages) of the script.
Under Kareena Kapoor’s leadership, The Buckingham Murders included performances by Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen in prominent positions. This investigative thriller follows the story of Jasmeet Bhamra (Kareena), who relocates to a new town in an attempt to leave behind painful memories of her son’s violent death. Upon being assigned the case of a missing boy, she embarks on a chilling journey uncovering the truth.
In terms of his professional life, Bebo (short for Kareena Kapoor Khan) will soon appear in Rohit Shetty’s film “Singham Again,” led by Ajay Devgn. This movie is set to premiere on the festive occasion of Diwali. Notably, it will encounter competition at the box office with “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” starring Kartik Aaryan alongside Triptii Dimri and Vidya Balan.
