Kareena Kapoor Khan has warmly responded to the thrilling announcement that Sharmila Tagore is set to attend the world premiere of the restored version of Aranyer Din Ratri at Cannes 2025. The esteemed actress, who played the main character in the 1970 movie, will gracefully represent India on the prestigious global stage.

Kareena Kapoor Khan recently reposted on Instagram about Aranyer Din Ratri’s upcoming debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The post includes a message from Sharmila Tagore, expressing excitement over the movie’s restoration process.

Sharmila expressed her excitement that Manik Da’s film “Aranyer Din Ratri” has been restored and will make its world debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She fondly recalled the time spent acting alongside her fellow cast members, and she was particularly impressed by Manikda’s skill in directing the memory game sequence. She eagerly anticipates watching the restored version of the film. “Aranyer Din Ratri” remains a remarkably relevant film, and Sharmila believes it will strike a chord with modern audiences worldwide.

1970’s film “Aranyer Din Ratri,” directed by the illustrious Satyajit Ray, is an adventure drama in Bengali that was adapted from Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel bearing the same title.

The movie showcases a diverse group of actors such as Sharmila Tagore, Kaberi Bose, Simi Garewal, Soumitra Chatterjee, Shubhendu Chatterjee, Rabi Ghosh, Samit Bhanja, Pahari Sanyal, Premashish Sen, Samar Nag, Khairatilal Lahori, Young Dibyendu Chatterjee, and Aparna Sen.

I’m delighted to share that I’ll be part of a distinguished group presenting the Cannes premiere. This includes filmmaker Wes Anderson, actress Sharmila Tagore, television personality Simi Garewal, Margaret Bodde (Executive Director of The Film Foundation), as well as Peter Becker and Fumiko Takagi from The Criterion Collection / Janus Films. Additionally, representatives from the family of producer Purnima Dutta will also be joining us for this special event.

In terms of his professional life, Khan is set to appear in the upcoming crime-drama titled Daayra, which is helmed by director Meghna Gulzar and co-stars Prithviraj Sukumaran. The movie is a production of Junglee Pictures.
