Having grown up watching Akshay Kumar’s iconic performances, I can confidently say that he set the bar high for any actor stepping into his shoes, especially Kartik Aaryan in the latest installment.
Under the guidance of director Priyadarshan, the movie Bhool Bhulaiyaa has earned a dedicated following among cinema enthusiasts over time. Starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, this 2007 production is admired for its memorable cast, witty dialogue, engaging plotline, and more. Kartik Aaryan, who currently leads the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series, has spoken about comparisons with Akshay, stating that it makes him feel strange. He also shared his wish to collaborate with Akshay on a future comedy project.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kartik Aaryan was asked about being likened to the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa star, Akshay Kumar. Kartik openly admitted that he has always been a huge fan of Akshay and continues to be so. However, he doesn’t feel comfortable comparing himself to the action star known as Khiladi Kumar in terms of talent or level of achievement.
Ever since I was young, I’ve been observing him. It’s strange for me when people compare us, leaving me somewhat at a loss for words.” (He stated)
Kartik acknowledged that comparisons between him and Akshay began after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, but he conceded that such a comparison is unattainable for him, as evidenced by his role in Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa, a blend of psychological horror and comedy, was a modern retelling of the 1993 Malayalam film titled Manichitrathazhu. The cast included Shiney Ahuja, Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, and others.
In the movie, Akshay Kumar took on the character of Dr. Aditya Shrivastava, a psychiatrist. Vidya Balan was chosen to portray Avani Chaturvedi, a woman diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder who identifies with Manjulika, a spectral dancer character. Shiney Ahuja starred as her on-screen spouse, Siddharth Chaturvedi.
In 2022, the follow-up to the movie “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” titled “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” was unveiled, featuring stars like Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu. Next up is “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3”, the third part of the franchise, slated for release on Diwali in 2024. However, it will face competition at the box office with another movie named “Singham Again”.
