Kartik Aaryan reveals how ‘one and a half minutes of lying' cost him 1.5 years for Chandu Champion, and the reason is too good to miss: ‘In reality…’

As a fervent admirer of Bollywood, I can’t help but be captivated by Kartik Aaryan’s journey and resilience. His willingness to go the extra mile for his craft is truly inspiring. The story of how he lied about his swimming abilities to secure a role in Chandu Champion, only to end up undergoing rigorous training for 1.5 years, is a testament to his dedication and commitment.

Kartik Aaryan, a popular Bollywood actor, garnered extensive acclaim for his acting in Chandu Champion, even though the movie didn’t do well at the box office. In a recent conversation, he shared an interesting story about how he deceived director Kabir Khan to land the part. He confessed that he had fibbed about being able to swim, but with a touch of humor, added that this brief falsehood led to 1.5 years of intense swimming training for the film.

At the Agenda Aaj Tak 2024 event, Kartik Aaryan confessed that for his role in Chandu Champion, he had deceived director Kabir Khan by stating he knew how to swim. In truth, while he was already captivated by the script, he overstated his abilities, leading others to believe he could swim professionally. However, in reality, he could only keep himself afloat during filming.

He did end up swimming in the Chandu Champion, performing like a professional swimmer. Reflecting on his rigorous training, he shared, “One and a half minutes of lying cost me one and a half years.”

As an ardent admirer, let me share this exhilarating news: Kartik revealed that the movie, centered around Murlikant Petkar – India’s pioneering Paralympic gold medalist – transformed into a collective odyssey for our dedicated team. Over the course of nearly two years, we honed our skills meticulously, immersing ourselves in an array of sports, with swimming being just one of them.

In the later phases of filming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the main actor was required to master swimming without relying on his legs. Moreover, he dared to engage in wrestling for the very first time, stretching his abilities far beyond their usual extent for this specific part.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Kabir Khan, the visionary director, had me diving headfirst into making my character as authentic as humanly possible. This meant learning every skill under the sun to bring the role to life. And guess what? I did it! I reached an incredibly lean physique with a near-unbelievable low body fat percentage. It was quite a challenge, but it was all worth it for this dream role!

Kartik celebrated finishing Chandu Champion by enjoying a special moment with Kabir Khan, who surprised him with Rasmalai as a treat. He looked back on this memorable incident and disclosed that, after abstaining from sugar for two years, the Rasmalai provided an unexpected surge of sugar.

Being a self-confessed dessert lover who yearned for something sweet following each meal, he thought giving up sugar was unimaginable. However, to his surprise, he’s managed to drastically reduce his sugar consumption these days.

Initially, the movie “Chandu Champion” didn’t do well at the box office, but it found a resurgence when it was streamed on Prime Video, receiving much affection from viewers. Notably, Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav played significant roles in this film.

Simultaneously, in his professional life, Kartik Aaryan made his Bollywood debut with the standout role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011. Since then, he has established himself as a recognizable figure with successful films such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dhamaka, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Luka Chuppi, and Chandu Champion.

His recent success continues with the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, where he stars alongside Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Triptii Dimri, and Rajpal Yadav.
