Generally recognized for romantic comedies like “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” and “Fool’s Gold,” both co-starring Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson from “The Glass Onion” is more than just a rom-com actress. Contrary to the ‘nepo-baby’ labels, she demonstrates a versatile skillset, also being a singer-songwriter. She even lent her voice to memorable films like her debut, “Almost Famous.” It must have been quite embarrassing for her when she couldn’t recognize the song she sang in that very movie.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Cameron Crowe’s film, “Almost Famous,” which was released. In a memorable scene from this 1970s coming-of-age movie, Hudson sang Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” and managed to get an entire tour bus full of rock stars to join in. However, she might no longer be able to take part herself. Check out the actress from “Bride Wars” struggle with Elton John’s lyrics while performing “Throw Me A Line” on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.

I guess that’s disappointing, but since it happened 25 years ago, I’ll be understanding about it. Just like the winner of American Idol puts it, sometimes she can’t even recognize her own songs anymore.
Despite everything, there was still hope. The actress from “Running Point” effortlessly recognized Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” a song she famously sang in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.” This movie might be newer than “Almost Famous,” but it’s not so fresh that a potential sequel or reboot could be dismissed. McConaughey and Hudson are undeniably one of my favorite romantic comedy pairs, so I wholeheartedly endorse this.
It’s possible that the actress from “Something Borrowed” is temporarily stepping away to concentrate on her music career. Her musical performances in films often don’t fully highlight her talent. However, her voice is quite impressive, a fact that many people seem to overlook. But not me, as I remember her electrifying performance on “Glee,” where she portrayed the seductive and intimidating NYADA dance professor, leaving an unforgettable impression of her vocal range.
Last year, she released her debut studio album titled “Glorious.” The actress known for Deepwater Horizon performed a song dedicated to her mother, Goldie Hawn (known for Overboard), during the finale of The Voice. Recently on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Hudson discussed her songwriting process with host and fellow coach on The Voice. She expressed her fondness for the track “Not Easy To Know.” Undeniably, Kate Hudson has a powerful voice. However, I hope she never covers it in Kellyoke as she is simply too talented to be overshadowed by such a rendition.

In my opinion, the actress from Mother’s Day should get another chance at “Throw Me A Line,” so I’m eagerly waiting for her return on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Also, a collaboration between the two female singers performing some Kellyoke would be fantastic. Perhaps a mix of “You’re So Vain” and “Mr. Know It All”? Or maybe a fresh take on “Tiny Dancer”? I’ll leave it up to the experts to arrange that.
While you’re waiting, don’t forget to catch Hudson’s latest series titled “Running Point” on Netflix. Unlike the melancholic tune by Simon, this Mindy Kaling comedy won’t be in vain as it has already been renewed for a second season. If you want to see Hudson and “Tiny Dancer” in Almost Famous, you can stream it with a Paramount+ subscription.
