Kate Hudson Regrets Playing It Cool

It’s hardly surprising that a sequel to the acclaimed film “The Devil Wears Prada” is being developed, given its memorable dialogues, Meryl Streep’s outstanding portrayal of Miranda Priestly, and its status as one of the best movies of the 2000s. Moreover, it’s hard to envision anyone else in the role of Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, who delivered a brilliant performance in the 2006 comedy. Interestingly, did you know that Anne Hathaway secured the role after numerous other prominent figures turned down the opportunity?

Initially, Anne Hathaway disclosed that she was originally the ninth choice for the lead in “The Devil Wears Prada”, with Rachel McAdams being the original top pick. It’s now been unveiled that another actress from Hollywood was also in contention for the role.

Kate Hudson Regrets Saying No To The Devil Wears Prada

Back in the 2000s, I, much like many of you reading this, fell in love with films like “Almost Famous” and “How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days,” thanks to the captivating performances by the one and only Kate Hudson. Well, here’s a fun tidbit: Kate herself revealed that she had an opportunity to join the cast of “The Devil Wears Prada.” However, she decided against it, as she shared with Capital FM. So, while we didn’t get to see her in that iconic role, we can still appreciate her talent in other fantastic movies she’s been a part of!

Reflecting on the movie “The Devil Wears Prada,” I wish I’d handled that situation differently. It seemed to be a matter of timing, and I found myself in a position where I couldn’t pull it off. In hindsight, I should have figured out a way to make it work, but I didn’t. When I look back on it now, I can’t help but feel, ‘Oh, that could have been a success.’ However, as the saying goes, every experience has its purpose. That situation was one of those instances where I learned something valuable about myself and my capabilities.

As a diehard movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Kate Hudson is currently gearing up for her new Netflix series, “Running Point.” During a recent interview about her upcoming project, she was asked about a role she missed out on, and to my delight, she mentioned “The Devil Wears Prada.” Now, it’s common knowledge that she was in the running, but the reason behind why things didn’t pan out for her remained a mystery. Yet, in a recent conversation, she shed some light on the matter, explaining:

“Well, I loved the script and felt a strong connection with the character. However, there were scheduling conflicts at the time that made it impossible for me to take on the role.”

So there you have it! Now we know why Kate Hudson didn’t end up starring in “The Devil Wears Prada.” It’s fascinating to see how scheduling issues can sometimes impact the course of a film.

Movies can be likened to a series of events unfolding like waves, with characters shooting their scenes at different points in time. It’s not about choosing not to participate; rather, it feels as if there’s another task demanding your attention at the very moment when the scene is being filmed, leaving you feeling drained or inconvenienced.

Indeed, Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of Andy in “The Devil Wears Prada” fits quite well, as she captures that fresh-faced, unexpectedly talented newcomer feel. However, I do believe Kate Hudson could also have done justice to the role, but her pedigree as Goldie Hawn’s daughter gives her a more established, less surprising image compared to Hathaway’s character.

If she had managed to fit the part into her schedule, she could have collaborated with Meryl Streep and other distinguished actors in “The Devil Wears Prada”. It’s no surprise that she still feels disappointed about missing out on this opportunity.

But, Rachel McAdams Apparently Said No To The Same Movie Multiple Times

It’s interesting to note that Rachel McAdams didn’t just decline The Devil Wears Prada, but reports suggest she turned it down on three separate occasions! When director David Frankel discussed the casting of Anne Hathaway with Entertainment Weekly in 2021, he mentioned this.

Initially, we attempted to strike a deal with Annie, but the studio found issue with this arrangement. On multiple occasions, we proposed the opportunity to Rachel McAdams, however, both the studio and she were resolute; the studio wanted her involvement, while she chose not to participate.

Currently, we’re unsure about McAdams’ motivations at that time. Given her popularity in 2004 with films like “Mean Girls” and “The Notebook” under her belt, one might ponder whether she ever regretted not accepting the role afterwards, perhaps after watching it?

Other well-known actresses who were apparently being considered were Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Kirsten Dunst. These are some of the top-tier actresses…

In essence, Anne Hathaway played a pivotal role as Andy Sachs in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, and it’s hard to imagine the film being quite the same without her captivating performance. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch up with this classic movie on Amazon Prime right now.
