15 years after its release on January 27th, “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” remains one of Kate Hudson’s standout performances. This timeless romantic comedy continues to captivate audiences year after year, and Hudson’s character, Andie Anderson, is often held up as a benchmark for her future roles. Hudson herself still cherishes the film, reenacting an iconic scene during the 2024 World Series. It looks like this affection for the movie will persist in 2025, with fans already drawing parallels between Hudson’s new sports comedy series, “Running Point”, and the classic rom-com.
On February 27th, 2025, the sports comedy series starring Hudson as Isla Gordon, an underestimated family member with ties to a renowned LA basketball team, will premiere on Netflix. As a scandal forces her brother out of his position, Isla navigates her way into the corporate side of basketball. The ten-episode series presents challenges for Isla as she strives to claim the president role in this male-dominated industry and uphold her family’s legacy.

Hudson’s team has added Drew Tarver, known for his role in “The Other Two,” Brenda Song from “Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” Chet Hanks, and Max Greenfield who starred in “New Girl” to its roster. Yet, the impressive cast lineup and Mindy Kaling’s creative input have not prevented fans of “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” from noticing the resemblance between the characters Isla and Andie.
Instagram User @andrea__lynch was the first to point out the connection to the beloved rom-com, commenting on the announcement:
This is giving Andie Anderson vibes and I’m here for it 😍
It’s reasonable for her to make that comparison since, during the early 2000s romantic comedy, Andie was an avid basketball enthusiast and a dedicated New York Knicks fan, unlike Isla who appears to support a fictional team from LA.
Once the similarity was called out, though, other fans chimed in, including the official account for Kaling’s media company, who wrote:
Andie, you will always be famous
@timothydenis_ even took it a step further, noting that maybe this was Andie’s next big career move:
How to loose a guy in ten days sequel ?
And if this were really a How to Lose a Guy sequel (which it’s not but it’s fun to dream), @virgcm’s fantastic comment would hit the nail on the head:
It’s giving Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry opened their own firm…
Regrettably, Matthew McConaughey won’t appear on this series, but the character feels reminiscent of Andie Anderson.
Or:
Unfortunately, you won’t see Matthew McConaughey in this program, but the role definitely gives off an Andie Anderson kind of vibe.
The official announcement, which was shared by co-creator Mindy Kaling and Kaling’s media company, also included a handful of first-look images, each highlighting one member of the cast. However, it was the fourth photo in the carousel that caught the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days fan’s attention. In it, Hudson is wearing a red carpet-worthy white, halter-style dress and is smiling beside an equally stylish Greenfield. One might think fans would be gushing about the pair, but Instagram User @courtneywalkup had other thoughts, commenting:
The white dress is SO How to Lose a Guy
Initially, I had to glance twice since Hudson seems to embody Andie’s spirit in that dress. Interestingly enough, the movie dress from “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” is actually yellow, but there’s no denying the resemblance in texture and style. It almost feels as if this could be a sophisticated, grown-up version of Andie, should she have chosen to swap her journalism career for the role of a basketball franchise president instead.
At an opportune moment, this new series arrives, as it seems sports comedy enthusiasts are on a quest to discover a series to take the place left vacant by the conclusion of Ted Lasso‘s Season 3. Additionally, it may serve as a welcome diversion from the news that Netflix is increasing its subscription fees once more.
Without a doubt, I’ll be accessing the streaming platform on February 27th to catch the series starring Kate Hudson.
