Katee Sackoff Wants To Appear In The Star Trek Franchise, And Next Generation’s Jonathan Frakes Has A Great Idea About Who She Could Play

As a gamer and a die-hard fan of science fiction, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stumbled upon a cosmic convergence of stars aligning for Katee Sackhoff. With her already iconic roles in Battlestar Galactica and The Mandalorian, she’s proven herself as an integral part of some of the most beloved sci-fi franchises out there. But it seems that our dear Starbuck isn’t content with just two galaxies under her belt – no, she’s aiming for a hat trick, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Katee Sackhoff is an actress recognized for her proficiency with genre-based roles, notably from playing Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in Battlestar Galactica and Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian and various Star Wars projects. Her involvement in two of the most acclaimed sci-fi TV series currently streaming is remarkable on its own. However, Sackhoff aspires to extend her influence beyond these franchises, even aiming for a role in Star Trek. Remarkably, Jonathan Frakes, known from The Next Generation, has proposed an intriguing character for Sackhoff to play in one of the forthcoming Trek TV series that will be accessible through Paramount+ subscription.

On her podcast “The Sackhoff Show”, Sackhoff conversed with Frakes, who played William Riker in “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Towards the end of their chat, Sackhoff inquired from him about what steps she should take to join the “Star Trek” series, as she yearns for a ‘hat trick’. Sackhoff surmised that her lack of opportunity to audition for a Trek project might be due to producers considering it too obvious to cast her given her previous sci-fi roles. However, Frakes proposed a solution for her to achieve this aspiration:

Have you heard anything about the latest production? It’s Starfleet Academy, and Paul Giamatti is part of it. The story unfolds 900 years from now. They might need an additional instructor, similar to Starbuck. I’d be happy to present my ideas on this.

Beyond his numerous portrayals of William Riker throughout the years, including his latest role in Picard Season 3, Jonathan Frakes is a skilled director who’s directed two Star Trek movies and numerous episodes from the franchise’s TV series. Given this background, it seems highly probable that he could be recruited to direct an episode for Starfleet Academy, possibly even multiple ones. Moreover, his position in the industry makes him well-positioned to propose Katee Sackhoff for the guest instructor role she has envisioned. I sincerely hope that he follows through with this idea, as it would be fantastic if Sackhoff were to join Starfleet Academy as an instructor, whether her character embodies Starbuck-like qualities or is unrelated to teaching space flight.

Set in the 32nd century following the Discovery timeline, Starfleet Academy will introduce us to a new generation of cadets training to become officers. Returning from Discovery are Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr, along with Robert Picardo reprising his role as The Doctor from Voyager. Joining the cast are renowned actors such as Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashere, and Tatiana Maslany. Although her main science-fiction focus is Star Wars these days, Katee Sackhoff would likely not decline a guest appearance in this new Star Trek series. I hope Jonathan Frakes can make it happen, as Sackhoff’s presence would be an excellent addition to the talented ensemble.

It’s anticipated that Starfleet Academy will make its TV premiere around 2025, so keep an eye on TopMob for the latest developments. The upcoming season of Lower Decks is next in line for the Star Trek schedule, followed by the release of the Section 31 movie in January.
