Katrina Kaif’s Chikni Chameli singer Shreya Ghoshal admits being ’embarrassed’ by super hit dance number; ‘It doesn’t sound…’

Shreya Ghoshal is renowned as one of the most melodious singers in her field and boasts an impressive collection of hit tracks. One such track is the Chikni Chameli song from Hrithik Roshan’s 2012 film, Agneepath. Lately, the singer expressed feeling “ashamed” when she observes young girls singing the tune without comprehending its true meaning.

In a recent chat with Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh, singer Shreya Ghoshal expressed that she has several songs which could be seen as somewhat suggestive, such as “Chikni Chameli.” She emphasized that there’s a distinction between being sensual and being overtly sexual, and being careless in objectifying oneself. Over time, she has become more mindful following observations of young girls singing these songs without fully grasping the meaning behind them.

The tune is quite lively, and they’re dancing along to it. Suddenly, one of them asks if they can perform the song for me. However, when a young girl, around 5-6 years old, starts singing the words, I feel rather awkward because the lyrics don’t seem fitting or pleasant for her age. It’s just not right.

Shreya expressed that she’s paying extra attention to the songs she chooses to sing now, preferring them to have thoughtful lyrics. She also mentioned that if a woman wrote the song, it might carry an added touch of elegance.

Perhaps a woman might have approached the piece with more grace. It’s all about perspective. In our culture, particularly within India, it’s crucial to establish certain standards since music and movies greatly influence our personal lives.” She continued her thought.

To wrap things up, I firmly believe that creating a smash hit film or chart-topping tune isn’t my calling – I’d rather carve out a unique niche in the annals of time, not by following trends, but by setting them instead.

Katrina Kaif’s song “Chikni Chameli” was filmed in Karan Malhotra’s movie Agneepath, which was a modern adaptation of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1990 film with the same title. The crime-drama, initially released in 2012, featured an ensemble cast including Priyanka Chopra, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Om Puri, who played significant roles.
