As a lifelong art enthusiast who has been fortunate enough to traverse the globe, witnessing the intersection of tradition and modernity in various cultural landscapes, I can confidently say that the latest installation of KAWS:HOLIDAY in Le Brassus, Switzerland is a truly captivating spectacle.
Following stints in Shanghai and Indonesia, the art exhibit KAWS:HOLIDAY makes its way back to Europe, touching down in Le Brassus, Switzerland. The 11-meter tall COMPANION statue is a component of the latest partnership between KAWS and Audemars Piguet, as previously announced.
The sculpture is installed at the haute horlogerie manufactuerer’s headquarter rooftop as a symbol of intertwining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary art. This marks the 12th stop of the HOLIDAY project as KAWS collaborates with long-time partner AllRightsReserved to present the COMPANION in a new location. As a nod to the heritage watch company, the COMPANION is strategically placed on the roof, overlooking the glass spiral of the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet. The COMPANION invites onlookers to reflect on the inextricable link between AP and the wider culture of the world. The orientation of the sculpture is a nod to old farming traditions that date back to the 18th century. For centuries, farmers in the region turned to watchmaking in the winters to sustain their livelihoods. Workshops were designed so that they would see minimum glare from the snow, not to strain the artisans’ eyes.
As a gamer, I’m stoked to share that I can’t wait for the next level in the KAWS:HOLIDAY tour! It’s awesome to team up with my old buddy KAWS again to introduce the COMPANION character in a whole new setting, shape, and with a fresh partner. This global adventure is a testament to the creative energy, groundbreaking ideas, and top-notch quality we share with this talented artist. I’m super pumped that Audemars Piguet will be joining us this time, bringing this exciting new stop to their charming hometown – a village steeped in culture and renowned craftsmanship. With their help, we’re writing a fresh story rooted in tradition. The KAWS:HOLIDAY Le Brassus exhibition will run from November 20 to December 20, 2024!
