In a fresh turn of events, Ke Huy Quan, the acclaimed star of the Oscar-winning film “Everything Everywhere All at Once“, is stepping into the role of an action lead in the upcoming movie “Love Hurts” – a film inspired by the “John Wick” series. Now, the actor is leveraging these newfound credentials for the action film “Love Hurts“, directed by Jonathan Eusebio.
In a fresh take, Ke Huy Quan portrays Marvin, a realtor with a questionable and hazardous history. When his old criminal companion reappears, Marvin finds himself compelled to fight once more, this time to grapple with his past and shield his new life. Joining Ke Huy Quan in the cast of Love Hurts are Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Sean Astin, Lio Tipton, Rhys Darby, Stephanie Sy, and football star Marshawn Lynch (who delivered an outstanding performance in Bottoms). After years away from it, a real estate agent finds himself drawn back into his old life when an ex-criminal partner reappears with a threatening note. As a movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the first trailer for “Love Hurts”. While it certainly showcases stunning action and combat sequences reminiscent of “John Wick”, what truly sets this film apart is the involvement of one of the most significant creatives from the franchise.
Ke Huy Quan’s Amazing Career Resurgance
It’s one thing to return to acting after a near two-decade-long break in an acclaimed action comedy. But, to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for your triumphant return is something else entirely. It wasn’t just Ke Huy Quan who was in tears when he accepted the Academy Award in 2023, as the entire audience was welling up when the actor ended his speech with, “Mom, I just won an Oscar!”
After his unexpected victory, Ke Huy Quan’s career has been thriving robustly. He built on his Oscar-winning act with a lead role in American Born Chinese, sharing the screen with his EEAAO co-star Michelle Yeoh. Subsequently, Quan moved to star in the largest cinematic universe yet, featuring in the second season of Loki. Despite Season 2 receiving mixed opinions compared to its initial release, Ke Huy Quan’s portrayal of OB was universally lauded.
