In the opening of “Severance” season 2, there are many unexpected twists: Mark (Adam Scott) manages to bring back his Macrodata Refinement group, which includes Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro). Additionally, it’s suggested that Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette) is no longer associated with Lumon, though this information comes from Milchick (Tramell Tillman), who isn’t exactly trustworthy. To make matters more confusing, Helly deceives her team by claiming that her outie, or counterpart in the office world, is the daughter of current Lumon CEO Jame Eagen.
One unexpected detail for attentive viewers might have gone unnoticed. In the episode, it’s none other than Keanu Reeves who lends his voice in a cameo role, portraying the talking Lumon building in the “Lumon is Listening” video that Milchick shares with the MDR team. Dan Erickson, the series creator and premier writer, shared in an interview with Collider, how they successfully landed such a high-profile celebrity to feature on their show.
In summary, we discussed multiple candidates for that position, aiming to find someone who strikes a balance between being well-known and having a warm demeanor. The Lumon building in this video is symbolic of friendliness, and the chosen voice shares this friendly nature along with a touch of genuine warmth.
As a movie enthusiast myself, it’s safe to say that Keanu Reeves’ warm and friendly voice is hard to beat in Hollywood today. The team behind the scenes, including Erickson, might not have disclosed who else they consulted, but Reeves’ charm certainly stands out. Even though the MDR crew remains a bit skeptical about Lumon’s true intentions, knowing that Keanu lent his voice to the cheerful, joyful building is bound to bring a smile to any fan’s face.
Erickson Promises a Much Darker Season 2
What can we expect from Season 2 besides the unexpected? Erickson has been quite secretive about it. Yet, he hinted that the second season will be significantly darker compared to its first installment. The answers to many questions will undoubtedly emerge throughout the 10 episodes, but these answers may only spark more queries. Moreover, we can anticipate seeing more of the elusive character, Milchick, this time around, making it an exciting prospect for fans of this enigmatic figure in the series.
Ben Stiller, who often takes on the roles of executive producer and director in the show, has kept tight-lipped about Season 2’s mysteries, but he did hint that the main story revolves around Mark’s quest to understand his true identity. This could mean we might delve deeper into Mark’s personal life outside the workplace and witness how these two aspects of his life intertwine or even collide. Stiller also suggests that there may be at least another two seasons of Severance, if the plot requires it.
Starting from January 17, 2025, you can stream the first episode of season two. New episodes will be released every Friday, leading up to the grand finale on March 21, 2025.
