Kelly Clarkson, who rose to fame on American Idol, has accumulated Grammy wins and nominations as a singer, but she’s also achieved significant success with her daytime talk show, filmed in New York City. Recently, her show, titled The Kelly Clarkson Show, has garnered multiple Emmys, drawn high-profile guests, and showcased the host’s genuine charisma, making it a hit for NBC. However, rumors suggest that Clarkson plans to depart from the show in 2026, concluding with the end of the 2025 TV season schedule.
It appears that Kelly Clarkson, who hosts both a talk show and sings, might decide to step away from “The Kelly Clarkson Show” when her contract ends next year, as suggested by anonymous sources mentioned by Page Six. The main reason seems to be that she wants to spend more quality time with her 10-year-old daughter River Rose and 8-year-old son Remy. An industry insider stated that Clarkson’s top priority is her children, and they will always come first. Additionally, the source mentioned that Clarkson would like to spend more time in the South after the demanding work of the show, which has been running for six years.
In recent developments, Kelly Clarkson’s return to her show followed a series of unspecified personal issues that caused her absence from several episodes. During her time away, hosts like Andy Cohen and Simu Liu temporarily filled in for her. However, she made a triumphant comeback to host the 1,000th episode in March.
It’s reported that NBC aims to retain Clarkson on their network. According to Deadline after renewing the show for Season 7 which will air during the 2025-2026 TV season, it was attracting an average daily viewership of 1.2 million. Interestingly, this is a growth from the fall of 2023, and not many shows manage to expand their audiences as they age.
Regardless, it appears that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is expensive to produce, leading to low profit margins according to Page Six reports. Even though her future as a New York-based host may be uncertain, NBC reportedly wants to retain Clarkson on their network for holiday specials. For instance, she has hosted events like Christmas in Rockefeller Center twice in the past, and they are said to wish for her to continue doing so.
Apart from hosting her talk show, she has also been quite busy on NBC. For instance, she served as a coach for nine seasons on “The Voice,” which resulted in four winners under her guidance. Furthermore, she co-hosted the short-lived but promising “American Song Contest” with Snoop Dogg. Lastly, she presented the holiday special “Kelly Clarkson Presents: When Christmas Comes Around.
Currently, Kelly Clarkson has yet to make any official statements regarding the potential future of her show following recent rumors about her plans to step away from it (and life in New York City). Over the past six years of the show, the singer-turned-host has faced numerous personal challenges, such as a highly publicized divorce. Approximately one year ago, she seemed content with her move from Los Angeles to New York City, having primary custody of her two children.
