Kelly Monaco Out At General Hospital, Will Be Killed Off

As a long-time aficionado of daytime soap operas, I’ve seen my fair share of cast changes and shocking exits. However, the recent departure of Kelly Monaco from General Hospital has left me utterly bewildered, much like trying to solve a Port Charles-sized Rubik’s cube.

The iconic soap opera, General Hospital, is set for a significant change following the sudden departure of Kelly Monaco, who has portrayed Sam McCall for 21 years. This sudden turn of events may cause widespread repercussions in the fictional town of Port Charles and the daytime TV industry at large. Given that Sam has been a pivotal figure on the show for over two decades, her abrupt departure is expected to impact most remaining characters in some way or another. Regrettably, it seems Monaco’s decision to leave the soap opera was not self-initiated and reportedly left her feeling “taken aback.”

In a temporary change, Lindsay Hartley from “Passions” has taken over the character of Monaco in the show. Although it could seem logical for Hartley or another actor to permanently play Sam, this won’t happen. As reported by Soap Opera Network, Sam will instead be written off the show, and Monaco’s final episodes are planned to air around fall. While it’s common for popular soap operas to kill off major characters, this move is not being met with enthusiasm among fans.

Fan Reaction To The Firing Is Quite Negative

The response from fans regarding Monaco’s departure from “General Hospital” has been overwhelmingly negative and emotional. The long-time soap opera star and first winner of “Dancing With The Stars” is receiving an outpouring of support, with comments on social media suggesting a fanbase that not only wants Monaco to continue as Sam, but are willing to replace other characters before her. One fan expressed their disbelief on platform X, saying, “They’re getting rid of Sam in the middle of a major storyline. This feels personal!!”

The story the aforementioned X user is referring to centers around a significant plot point in General Hospital’s recent episodes. Sam’s two sisters, Molly Lansing Davis (Kristen Vagonos) and Kristina Corinthos Davis (Kate Mansi) are embattled following the death of Molly’s unborn child, one being carried by Kristina, who was serving as a surrogate. This storyline is one of the driving forces of the series lately, so viewers are having difficulty understanding the timing of Sam being dropped from the soap. However, another fan believes the issue goes beyond Monaco, instead representing the overall treatment of women on the soap.

Monaco’s exit comes amid a heavy influx of returning General Hospital veterans and a bloated cast of newcomers. Recent and upcoming returns include the legacy character, Lucky Spencer, once again played by Jonathan Jackson, who originated the role. Rick Heart (Ric Lansing) made his grand return recently as well, being thrust into the storyline mentioned earlier to comfort his daughter, Molly, during the crisis. Emma Samms is also slated to check in at General Hospital sometime soon as well, reprising her legendary role of Holly Sutton. These three mark only the latest examples of high-profile actors who appeared on General Hospital or are set to appear in the coming weeks.

At the moment, we’re not sure what Monaco’s departure plot will involve. However, given her connections to various characters in the show, she could potentially become a focal point. She shares a child with mob enforcer Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and another with his twin brother Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), who is both a former Navy SEAL and currently running for Congress. These factors might make Drew a tempting target for adversaries.

General Hospital
