Kelsey Grammer’s Wants to Do a Specific Number of Frasier Episodes

Kelsey Grammer's Wants to Do a Specific Number of Frasier Episodes

As a cinephile with over four decades of television viewing under my belt, I must say that Kelsey Grammer’s dedication to Dr. Frasier Crane is truly commendable. Having grown up watching Frasier navigate the complexities of love, life, and psychiatry on Cheers and then again in his own spin-off series, I can attest to the fact that Grammer has made the character an integral part of my personal television history.

Kelsey Grammer truly enjoys playing the role of Dr. Frasier Crane; he’s aiming to act it out for at least another 100 episodes. He first brought this renowned character to life in 1984 when he appeared on Cheers as a love interest to Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). Grammer continued playing the sitcom until its final Season 11 in 1993, but Frasier didn’t stay away for long. Shortly after Cheers ended, Grammer was back as Dr. Crane, this time on a new show called Frasier, which found his character back home in Seattle, working as a radio psychiatrist and surrounded by an amazing ensemble of characters.

Approximately twenty years after his initial stint, Grammer once again donned the looser version of Dr. Crane’s shoes for Paramount+’s remake. The series has now entered its second season, and Grammer expresses his hope that it continues for a considerable length of time. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, he disclosed:

I aim to produce at least 100 more episodes, though the exact timeline is uncertain. It could happen sooner or later, but I’m flexible. If they decide to wrap it up in four years, great, but if they want to extend it, I’m okay with that too. I believe we can keep our content engaging and significant as long as I continue to strive for quality.

Fans of the popular sitcom “Frasier” would undoubtedly agree: Dr. Frasier Crane is undeniably one of television’s most adored characters, a role that Kelsey Grammer masterfully embodied for many years. During his extensive career, Grammer garnered numerous accolades for his portrayal of Frasier in shows such as “Cheers,” “Wings,” and “Frasier.” His performance in the latter even earned him several awards. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Frasier, and it’s no wonder that Grammer finds reprising the character an effortless task.

Slipping into the character of Frasier has always been effortless for me. While he was initially crafted by writers, I’ve infused him with a sense of life, emotion, and substance – qualities that I’ve added to the role, and ones I continue to maintain.

Frasier Revival Could See More Original Cast Members Return

For 11 consecutive seasons, the initial run of Frasier graced our screens, earning a total of 37 Primetime Emmy Awards along the way, until it concluded in 2004. Currently, Kelsey Grammer is the sole original cast member returning for the revival in a leading role; this aligns well since the fresh series finds him back in Boston. In addition to Grammer, the new Paramount+ series Frasier boasts Jack Cutmore-Scott, Anders Keith, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, and Jess Salguiero as its stars.

From my perspective, while the Frasier reboot hasn’t quite matched the triumph of its original run, it’s undeniably delightful to have Frasier back on our screens, whether it’s a welcome return or a first-time viewing experience. Bebe Neuwirth and Peri Gilpin have stepped back into their roles as Dr. Lilith Sternin and Roz Doyle superbly, but I can’t help but yearn for more of the original cast to join in the fun. Fortunately, there appears to be a glimmer of hope on that front.

Niles (David Hyde Pierce) might appear in future episodes, though this depends on him and whether we can create a suitable storyline. We do have his son on the show, who helps maintain the connection between Niles, Daphne (Jane Leeves), and us. It would certainly add excitement if they made a return to the series.

In 2018, we sadly lost John Mahoney, who portrayed Frasier’s father, a retired cop. Interestingly, some aspects of the new series reflect Mahoney’s character, Martin. For instance, the dynamic between Frasier and his son Freddy (Cutmore-Scott) mirrors the original’s father-son relationship, as Grammer notes that “the theme of a father grappling with his son is repeated.

New episodes of Frasier Season 2 air on Paramount+ on Thursdays.
