Ken Jennings Has A Genius Idea For Who Could Portray Him On SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy, But I Think He’s Overlooking An Obvious Choice

As a long-time fan of Saturday Night Live and Jeopardy!, I can’t help but feel excited about the prospect of Celebrity Jeopardy! making a comeback in 2025. Ken Jennings’ suggestion of Kate McKinnon is spot on, given her impressive range and comedic timing. However, if we’re looking for someone currently working in Studio 8H, I believe Mikey Day would be an excellent choice.

Saturday Night Live’s Celebrity Jeopardy! sketches have become legendary moments for the NBC comedy series. Even if you’re not a die-hard SNL fan, chances are you’ve come across some of the best Celebrity Jeopardy! sketches starring Will Ferrell as the unforgettable Alex Trebek. Now, imagine Celebrity Jeopardy! in the Ken Jennings era of Jeopardy! If SNL were to revive it for their 2025 TV schedule, how would it look with Jennings hosting? When asked this question, he had some fantastic ideas, but I believe he’s missing out on an obvious pick.

Ken Jennings Shares An A+ Idea For Who Could Play Him On SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy!

Sean Connery’s portrayal on Celebrity Jeopardy! remains one of the funniest recurring characters on Saturday Night Live. Skits mimicking the quiz show are still among the most watched SNL clips on YouTube. However, it’s been a decade since NBC writers have revisited this concept, with the last Celebrity Jeopardy! sketch airing in February 2015 during Season 40. Recently, during a live taping, an audience member asked Ken Jennings who he thought could play him if they were to revive the idea for the current Season 50. According to the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, his response was…

She has to return, and I believe Kate McKinnon could take on the role. Somebody suggested Jack McBrayer online, but he’s not part of the cast. However, that doesn’t seem important anymore, correct? It’s just about whoever is suitable now, right? That’s how Saturday Night Live usually operates?

Despite Kate McKinnon having departed from SNL in 2022, her suitability as an answer is still spot-on, and I have a hunch that Kenneth Jennings may have previously pondered his resemblance to the Barbie actress on other occasions.

30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer could be a suitable pick, despite not having been on Saturday Night Live before. As the host of Jeopardy! noted, SNL occasionally brings in external comedians or former cast members for certain parts, even taking a bold step ahead of the presidential election. If they were to opt for someone currently working at Studio 8H, I believe Jack McBrayer would be an ideal candidate.

Mikey Day Could Totally Play Ken Jennings On Saturday Night Live

As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t suppress my laughter when Ryan Gosling donned the Beavis costume during his Saturday Night Live hosting stint in April. Mikey Day’s portrayal of Butt-Head kept the buzz around that viral Beavis and Butt-Head sketch alive for weeks after. Though Day might not physically resemble Ken Jennings as much, I firmly believe that his compact build and versatility in character acting make him an ideal candidate.

Slap a wig on Mikey Day and call it a … never mind, I’ll leave the dad jokes to Ken Jennings. Another point in Day’s favor is that he’s also got some game show experience that he could bring to the role as the host of Netflix’s Is It Cake?

In a natural and easy-to-read way, the sentence could be rephrased as follows: It can easily be assumed that Ken Jennings would take it as a compliment, regardless of who took on his role from behind the podium, just like the previous Jeopardy! host did. Alex Trebek was reportedly fond of Jeopardy! parodies and even appeared in an iconic sketch on SNL during Season 27.

Let’s wait and find out if we’ll continue to see SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy! skits. In the meantime, check out the upcoming hosts and musicians for Season 50, and remember to watch at 11:30 p.m. ET Saturdays on NBC or with a Peacock subscription while streaming.
