As a long-time devotee of the brilliant and witty sitcom “Community,” I have been eagerly awaiting the day when the much-anticipated movie would finally see the light of day. With each passing year, my hopes had begun to dwindle, until the recent revelation that Señor Chang himself, Ken Jeong, has confirmed that a script for the film has been completed and is just waiting for production to move forward.
Being a fan since its inception in 2009, I have followed the ups and downs of this hilarious show, from its initial cancellation to its eventual resurrection, only to be cancelled again after six seasons. Throughout this rollercoaster ride, I have grown attached to the characters and their quirky personalities, with Ben Chang being one of my favorites.
Ken Jeong’s recent interview with TV Insider has given me a renewed sense of hope that the dream of six seasons and a movie is not entirely lost. Hearing that the script exists and the cast is just waiting for production to begin has filled me with a warmth in my heart that I haven’t felt since Greendale Community College first opened its doors.
I can only imagine the emotions that will wash over me when I see the cast reunited once again on set, especially since “Community” was the catalyst for many of my friendships and inside jokes with fellow fans. The thought of meeting one of my best friends, Joel McHale, because of this show brings a smile to my face and makes me reminisce about the countless hours spent laughing at Jeff Winger’s antics.
However, I must admit that I am a bit worried about the delays in production due to scheduling conflicts with the A-list cast members. As someone who has been following their careers since the show ended, it is impressive to see how far they have come and the success they have achieved. But as a fan, all I want is for them to return to Greendale one last time so we can all bask in the glory of a hilarious reunion.
In the end, I will remain hopeful that the “Community” movie will finally happen, and when it does, I’ll be there with bells on, ready to laugh my heart out once again at the antics of our favorite study group. And who knows, maybe we’ll even get a cameo from Beetlejuice himself!
For how many years now have Community enthusiasts been chanting “Six seasons and a movie”? The cherished sitcom, penned by Dan Harmon, aired for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. Since the series ended, fans have taken to social media, rallying for Abed’s wish to materialize. This dream was realized in 2022 when the Community movie was finally officially confirmed. Unfortunately, progress has been sluggish since then, causing concern among fans. Fortunately, Ken Jeong, who played Señor Chang, has offered a glimmer of hope to these anxious supporters.
During a recent chat with TV Insider for the promotion of the show “Accused”, Jeong shared some positive updates regarding the long-awaited film version of “Community”. Jeong confirmed that the script has been finalized, and the cast is now eagerly awaiting the next phase of production.
Jeong stated that there is a script and a plan, but they haven’t decided when it will come to fruition yet. Once everything is set, it promises to be truly captivating and emotionally moving.” Jeong has confirmed that he’s read the script, hinting at a heartfelt nostalgic experience for fans.
I’m really looking forward to returning to the set, as it will be a deeply rewarding experience. Words fall short in expressing my feelings. It’s amusing because it was during this show that I had the chance to meet one of my dearest friends, Joel McHale. This fact alone made me emotional and transported me back to earlier times, but I can only share as much as is legally permitted.
Ken Jeong initially showed up in the pilot episode of Community, portraying Ben Chang – a character who taught Spanish at Greendale Community College and went by various aliases including El Tigre, Chino, Sgt. Chang, Overkill, and Brutalitops the Magician. This role became recurring throughout the series’ six seasons. Initially, it was revealed that Ben had been misrepresenting his qualifications, leading to him enrolling as a student at Greendale himself. From then on, he intermittently joined the study group.
In addition to Jeong, the TV series “Community” featured Joel McHale, Dan Pudi, Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Chevy Chase. However, it’s worth noting that Chevy Chase is not expected to return for the upcoming movie, as he left the show during Season 5 due to increasing conflicts with Dan Harmon.
The ‘Community’ Movie has Been “Reworked”
Jeong’s recent announcement brings a ray of optimism amidst the sequence of updates on the Community movie. Back in October, it was disclosed that the production of the movie had been postponed once more. Later, Yvette Nicole Brown, who portrays Shirley in the series, talked about the delays in an interview, yet reassured fans that the film is indeed on its way. She clarified that the setbacks were due to the project undergoing some changes or reworking.
“I think it’s being reworked, but we all have read an entire, full script. So a script exists.”
The actress went on to explain that the “reshaping” is due to the busy schedules of the main cast members. Since they left ‘Community’ in 2015, each of the principal cast has enjoyed thriving careers within the entertainment industry. Given this success, coordinating the schedules of seven high-profile actors proves challenging. Brown stated:
Currently, we’re finding it challenging to synchronize everyone’s schedules, as we had planned for it initially but then a strike occurred. Now, it feels like attempting to determine when someone has finished their performance or task.
