Ken Jeong Says Reading ‘Community’ Movie Script Made Him “Emotional”: It “Just Brought Me Right Back”

As a long-time fan who grew up with the hilarious antics of Greendale’s study group, hearing about the potential revival of Community fills me with an indescribable mix of excitement and nostalgia. Ken Jeong‘s recent comments about reading the script for the movie only serve to heighten that anticipation. I can almost feel the campus spirit coursing through my veins again!

Ever since the official announcement of the “Community” movie in 2022, eager fans have been yearning for insights into the plot details of the film.

Ken Jeong, known for his role as Spanish teacher Ben Chang in the NBC comedy series, has shed some light on the project by discussing his experience with the film’s script.

In a recent interview with TV Insider on Thursday, the Masked Singer judge shared that the experience left them feeling emotional and transported them back to a specific moment, but they are only allowed to disclose that much according to their legal obligations.

He didn’t share too many details, but he did mention, “We have a script, we have a blueprint. What remains unclear is the timing. When we finalize that, it will be nothing short of enchanting and genuinely moving.

As I stand before this gaming console, about to embark on another adventure, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of anticipation. It’s going to be indescribably rewarding to dive back into the world I love so much.

In the world of gaming, I found myself as part of an eclectic group studying together at the fictional Greendale Community College. The cast included Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Chevy Chase – that is, until the fourth season when a disagreement with the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, led to his departure.

During the run of this particular show, it drew the most fervent supporters out of all the projects I’ve been involved with. Jeong stated that these were indeed the most passionate fans.

Previously, Harmon informed The Hollywood Reporter that all cast members were on board for a Community film, with the exception of Chase who decided not to participate.

What truly matters most to me, whether I’m an audience member or a fan of that show, is witnessing those characters interact with one another. It’s essential because their bond remains strong, and it wouldn’t feel authentic if they were filmed separately at various times and places.

Harmon’s biggest priority is making sure the fans are pleased with the film.

He mentioned that the fanbase who has been most loyal and resilient in supporting him is the one he’s referring to. Over time, they’ve stuck by him more than others. This is why: when he was having disagreements with Chevy, he wasn’t considering their feelings at all. It was only after the fact that he came to understand how much he had hurt those who didn’t wish to see him as a peculiar, self-styled Kubrick. Instead, they appreciated Greendale and the world he constructed. Unfortunately, they were unexpectedly served a side of him that wasn’t right for them, and that was unfair.

He added, “I’m deeply anxious about potentially making a mistake, and this fear is overwhelming. Yet, I cling to the thought that acknowledging my fears could possibly help me break free from this vicious cycle.

The series ran from 2009 to 2015 and included six seasons.
