Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna Reportedly Declined To Headline Coachella 2025

As a seasoned concert-goer with decades of music festival experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment hearing that Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna have turned down Coachella 2025. The anticipation for their performances was palpable, especially after the less-than-satisfying turn of events with Frank Ocean in 2023.

Fans eager to see Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna perform at Coachella 2025 are in for a letdown, as it appears that these top-tier artists have turned down the chance to be the main acts next year.

According to reports to Bloomberg, both artists declined the invitation for various reasons. Dot has already been confirmed as the main act for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February, while Rihanna, who was set to perform at the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show, isn’t keen on the large paycheck or increased visibility. It’s also said that Lamar is planning a stadium tour, but no details have been confirmed as of now.

According to Bloomberg, Paul Tollett, the concert promoter, is on the hunt for top-tier headliners who can guarantee a full house at the 2025 festival following Coachella’s struggle to sell out the last two years. It has become harder in recent times to secure these big artists, as they now earn more from individual shows than festival appearances. For instance, Coachella offers between $8 million and $12 million USD for both weekends, but stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have the potential to make up to $15 million USD in a single night on their own.

2023’s headlining gig by Frank Ocean tarnished the festival’s image further, as the organizers were also held accountable for the incident. The artist started his performance late and concluded it less than an hour beyond the scheduled time, leaving fans on-site disgruntled and booing him in frustration. Subsequently, Ocean decided to skip his weekend two appearance.
