As a gamer with a deep appreciation for historical narratives and strong female leads, I am absolutely thrilled about Netflix’s upcoming release of Tyler Perry’s wartime drama, “The Six Triple Eight.” Given my penchant for strategy games and the intricacies of warfare, the fact that this film is based on an actual Women’s Army Corps unit during WWII adds a layer of authenticity that I find incredibly appealing.
Netflix unveiled the initial glimpse at Tyler Perry’s forthcoming war-themed drama featuring Kerry Washington.
Titled “The Six Triple Eight“, this movie is based on the unique Women’s Army Corps unit of color who served overseas during World War II. The film follows these under-recognized heroes as they take on an extraordinary mission and fight together to overcome obstacles. In the movie, Viola Davis portrays Major Charity Adams, a strong leader guiding her battalion of female soldiers. She motivates them with words like, “I am giving you my best, and you will give me yours. Many people don’t want us to succeed, but we have the most to prove.” The film also stars an impressive ensemble cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Ebony Obsidian, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Jay Reeves, Jeffery Johnson, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Donna Biscoe, Gregg Sulkin and Scott Daniel Johnson.
The film is a commentary on the historical 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, nicknamed “Six Triple Eight,” where 855 women were led by Major Charity Adams. A self-sufficient unit, most of the group worked as postal clerks and some other were cooks, mechanics and other supporting positions during WWII. The film is Perry’s third feature release in 2024 and is The Six Triple Eight is slated to premiere in theaters on December 6 before hitting Netflix on December 20. Watch the trailer above.
