Kesari Chapter 2: Akshay Kumar wants British govt, King Charles to watch patriotic drama to ‘realize their mistake’; reacts to political row on film

Akshay Kumar is eagerly awaiting the premiere of his upcoming historical drama film, Kesari Chapter 2, which revolves around the lesser-known events of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Prior to its launch, he expressed a hope that both the British government and King Charles will view the movie to gain insight into their past error. Moreover, he has also addressed the ongoing political controversy surrounding the film.

At a press conference for Kesari Chapter 2 on April 11, Akshay Kumar spoke about how his grandfather had lived through the tragic event and often shared tales of it with his father. He, in turn, passed these stories on to him, making this film significant for Akshay as he grew up learning much about the massacre.

He mentioned that the incident is forever engraved in his memory, and he found it astonishing that historical texts fail to reveal crucial information everyone should be aware of. Later on, Kumar also expressed his opinions regarding the British administration’s viewing of the movie.

He expressed that he doesn’t intend to ask for an apology directly. Instead, he wants them to watch a particular movie, which might help them understand their error. Once they grasp the truth, an apology may naturally come forth. However, his primary focus is on getting the British government and King Charles to view this film, so they can see what transpired in the past. The rest will fall into place subsequently.

Furthermore, he also tackled the controversy surrounding the movie which arose following BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s assertion that the Congress party had overlooked past notables like Sankaran Nair, among others, in favor of the “Congress dynasty’s” interests.

In a non-partisan manner, Kumar expressed that as an actor, he avoids engaging in political discussions. Instead, he clarified that the purpose of the movie was to enlighten viewers about past events. He underscored that the film was based on the book and stories he heard from his father about it.

He stated that the movie encompasses a blend of various elements. As for political discussions, he prefers not to delve into them.

In the upcoming movie directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Akshay Kumar portrays the character of C. Sankaran Nair. This film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025.
