Kevin Bacon Bans ‘Footloose’ at Weddings He Attends to Avoid Embarrassing Attention

For the given individual, that iconic musical film from 1984, namely “Flashdance“, will always be associated with him, since he realizes the enduring appeal of its infectious theme song…even if he occasionally attempts to distance himself from it.

Prior to the premiere of his upcoming Prime Video series titled “The Bondsman“, Michael Bacon recently participated in a comprehensive review of his career at SXSW and discussed his character role as Ren. This discussion led him to share an experience he refers to as a “nightmare” – instances where, unintentionally, he overshadows the bride during weddings due to the attention his presence brings. He elaborated on this by saying:

Michael Bacon, in preparation for the launch of his new Prime Video series “The Bondsman“, recently reminisced about his career at SXSW and spoke about his character as Ren and how it has become an integral part of his life. During this discussion, he revealed a tricky situation he sometimes encounters at weddings – the unfortunate occurrence of upstaging the bride due to the spotlight his presence naturally attracts. He clarified this predicament by saying:)

My biggest fear is attending a wedding, only for the DJ to start playing music. Typically, the tunes initially focus on the bride, but then alcohol enters the equation. By 10:30 pm, a song comes on that makes it all about me joining in the dance. It feels like people will create a circle around me and clap their hands as if I’m some kind of performing monkey, trained to dance for their amusement.

He mentioned that DJs should skip playing the song when he’s around, and then clarified, “I adore this song, truly. It’s not about my dislike for the track, but rather… I hold it in high regard. Similarly, I take immense pride in the movie, absolutely.

Kevin Bacon Knows That He Has No One to Blame For ‘Footloose’s Success but Himself

Four decades on, Kevin Bacon acknowledges that the impact of “Footloose” may persist in his career, regardless of other roles he takes on. However, he’s content with this, understanding that the global fame the movie bestowed upon him was a dream come true for an aspiring actor like himself. He admitted:

Kevin Bacon, over 40 years after the release of Footloose, recognizes that the film’s influence on his career may linger, regardless of other roles he takes on. Yet, he’s at peace with this, as he understands that the global fame the movie brought him was a long-held aspiration for an actor like himself. He admitted:

I got exactly what I desired, yet I can’t point fingers at anyone else but me. Truth be told, I’d always envisioned having all those possessions, but only when I truly possess them do I sense a peculiar oddity about it.

Sure enough, that fame opened up a variety of opportunities for Bacon. He’s graced both the big and small screen in numerous films and TV shows spanning various genres, including comedy, horror, and everything in between. His versatile acting skills have made him one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors. Notable roles include parts in “Tremors” and “Flatliners,” which paved the way for movies like “Hollow Man” and “Mystic River.” Furthermore, he ventured into the superhero realm with appearances in “X-Men: First Class” and reprised his role in the “Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special.

This year, Kevin Bacon will not only star in the supernatural drama The Bondsman, but he’ll also make his debut as the antagonist in The Toxic Avenger, a film that has been on hold for about a year. However, it was just announced that it will hit theaters on August 29, 2025.
