As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for horror and a soft spot for Kevin Bacon, I must say that his career is as intriguing as it is captivating. From his humble beginnings in ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ to his iconic role in ‘Friday the 13th’, Bacon has made a name for himself by portraying characters who, more often than not, meet their untimely demise on screen.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some insights about Kevin Bacon. He first made his mark with “National Lampoon’s Animal House” and has since taken on diverse roles spanning comedies and dramas. However, what truly resonates with fans about this versatile actor is the numerous times his screen characters have met their untimely demise. Although he may not share the same infamous ‘game of thrones’ as Sean Bean, Bacon consistently leaves us spellbound before we witness his on-screen demise, leaving quite an impact each time.
At a press event for MaXXXine held in Los Angeles last summer, Kevin Bacon spoke with CinemaBlend about some of his most impactful death scenes, including the one in Friday the 13th where he portrayed Camp Crystal Lake counselor Jack. In this iconic horror movie, Jack met his end when an arrow was fired from beneath the bed and struck him while he was resting on his bunk.
An intriguing aspect about “Friday the 13th” is how people continue to request autographs featuring images of me, portrayed as a dead character with an arrow through my throat and blood around my mouth. Sometimes I wish I could respond, “Do you have anything of me alive to sign? It would be nicer to put my signature on that.
In his career, this part was particularly significant, but it wasn’t the first or last time his on-screen character met an untimely end. In 1978’s “Animal House,” he played Chip Diller, who was tragically crushed by a crowd in the third act, and in 1994’s “The River Wild,” he was fatally shot by Meryl Streep’s character. Additionally, Bacon mentioned that he faced gunfire again in the 1996 crime thriller “Sleepers.
“A movie I highly recommend is Sleepers. In this film, a group attacks me and fires at least seven times, which is memorable because there were seven distinct sounds – or ‘squibs’ as they’re called in the industry.
Currently, Bacon has just wrapped up his role in MaXXXine, the concluding chapter of Ti West’s terrifying X trilogy. Regrettably, the character he portrayed suffered a tragic end, specifically being trapped inside a car in a scrapyard and getting crushed into bits by a massive car compactor.
The ‘X’ Trilogy Features Some of the Goriest Kills in Horror
The movie named “MaXXXine” belongs to a series of three horror films, which also includes “X” and “Pearl.” All these movies were directed by Ti West and feature Mia Goth as the main character. Known for their daring narratives and graphic visuals, these films are interconnected. The initial film, “X,” is set in the 1970s, while “Pearl” serves as a prequel. “MaXXXine” concludes the storyline begun in the previous films.
The X trilogy stands out for its imaginative and gruesome deaths, ranging from a projectionist being pierced by a pitchfork to Mr. Miller’s head detonating. These scenes are both gruesome and gratifying (for hardcore horror enthusiasts, that is). Essentially, movies like MaXXXine aim to challenge the limits of horror and provide unique and chilling deaths. They’re offering novel perspectives on classic themes and reinventing the horror genre. It’s intriguing to see someone as gifted as Bacon contributing to such projects.
