As a seasoned gamer of both the big and small screen, I must say that the return of Kevin Costner to the Venice Film Festival with his epic saga, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two,” has me more than a little excited. Having grown up on the likes of “Dances with Wolves” and “Open Range,” I’ve always admired Costner’s knack for weaving tales that transport you to another time and place.
2024, here I come! Can’t wait to be part of the action as I step into the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Part Two. Can’t believe I get to experience this epic saga unfold on the big screen alongside fellow movie enthusiasts!
“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two” premieres outside of competition at the Venice Film Festival on September 7, with Oscar-winning actor in director and lead roles. The impressive ensemble cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, and Danny Huston.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One, will likewise be shown on the same day, following the film’s 10-minute standing ovation at Cannes in May. However, Costner’s Western epic soon faced criticism from critics. This film marked the beginning of writer-director-star Costner’s risky four-picture deal, which he financed partially by mortgaging one of his homes (totaling $38 million personally). Chapter One spans three hours and primarily establishes a vast array of characters to set the scene.
Costner stated: “It’s long been my ambition to unveil ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two’ at the Venice Film Festival. The fact that they are planning to screen ‘Chapter One’ earlier in the day, followed by the World Premiere of ‘Chapter Two’ later in the evening, indicates not only their faith in how well the two films complement each other but also their endorsement of a director’s creative vision.”
“I owe a great deal of appreciation to Alberto Barbera, the director of the Venice Film Fest, for his bravery and guidance in embarking on this cinematic adventure. With gratitude and eagerness, I’m back at the Venice Film Festival. Here’s to the magic of cinema and those who dare to defend it!”
The movies, produced by New Line Cinemas, delve into the Civil War’s expansion and the colonization of the American West. They are jointly penned by Kevin Costner and Jon Baird (known for “The Explorers Guild”), and are brought to life through his production house, Territory Pictures.
