Kevin Durand’s Daughter Devastated by Proximus Caesar’s Fate in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

300 years after “War for the Planet of the Apes,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” finds Kevin Durand’s character, Proximus Caesar, distorting the teachings of the original Caesar and conflicting with the main character, Noa (played by Owen Teague). However, as is common with villains, Proximus met his end by the movie’s conclusion, plunging to his demise when assaulted by eagles trained by Noa’s clan. Though many may have rejoiced at his downfall, Durand’s daughter was reportedly “extremely disappointed” about Proximus’ fate for a reason that is both touching and tragic.

Actor Durand, recognized for roles in films like “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, “The Strain” and “Locke & Key”, recently appeared on “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” for a discussion about his career. Among other topics, they touched upon his work on “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes“. Durand shared that he was moved to tears when director Wes Ball first showed him the character Proximus Caesar, and described the experience as the “greatest immersive experience” he’s ever had. When asked if his children had seen the movie, Durand replied affirmatively.

It seems my wife picked up those items while I was preoccupied with press duties, and our 8-year-old was quite upset about it. You see, she’s quite artistic and loves stories. When she saw the Proximus figures instead of me, her favorite playmate, she became very agitated. She associates me with the way I act around the house, speaking in a certain voice, and interacting with those toys. Although WETA added some amazing details to the figures, she didn’t take well to them this time. Perhaps when she grows older, she might appreciate them more.

In one of the pre-release leaks for the “Planet of the Apes” series, a major plot twist was revealed prematurely. However, the producer justified this unconventional marketing decision as the ‘appropriate’ choice.

In simpler terms, the producers behind “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” are aware of the unique backgrounds of characters Proximus Caesar and Raka. I’m eager to watch a movie that delves into their special pasts.

It’s clear that Kevin Durand’s daughter can relate to his role in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” as she spent a lot of time with him during the preparations for it. So, it’s not surprising that when the bonobo villain exclaimed, “What a wonderful day!” and plotted to acquire human technology, she might think of her father. It’s no wonder she found it hard to watch Proximus die, even though his character needed to be dethroned.

Just as Kevin Durand’s character suggested, it could be interesting to see how his daughter reacts when she revisits that scene in the future, whether she’s a teenager or a young adult. Now that Proximus Caesar’s rule has ended, the stage is set for the next phase of the Planet of the Apes reboot storyline. In the finale of Kingdom, Freya Allen’s character Mae delivered the decryption key from Proximus’ beachfront base to a human settlement at a satellite location. With this key, they were able to activate ancient satellites and establish contact with other intelligent humans worldwide. What will these humans do now that they can collaborate, and what impact will this have on apes, who are currently the dominant species on Earth?

As the next “Planet of the Apes” film is slated for release around 2027, you’ll find the answers you seek in a couple of years’ time. Until then, enjoy streaming “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and other series installments within this sci-fi universe by subscribing to Hulu.
