Kevin Feige Reveals the Next Era of the MCU After The Multiverse Saga

As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer, I cannot contain my excitement over the latest announcement from Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige. The MCU is about to enter a new era, one that will finally bring mutants into the fold! This is something we’ve all been waiting for since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox and the X-Men franchise.

In an interview during the promotional tour for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared some thrilling news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Previously, we referred to the first 23 films as the “Infinity Saga,” and the following, less successful phase was labeled the “Multiverse Saga.” With “Avengers: Secret Wars” slated to conclude the Multiverse Saga in 2027, Feige has now announced that the upcoming phase will be known as the “Mutant era.”

During an interview with The Playlist, Feige expressed his long-awaited enthusiasm for incorporating X-Men and other mutant characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Although the Multiverse Saga won’t conclude for a while, Feige hinted that the introduction of mutants will mark the next major development in the Marvel storyline. This exciting transformation officially begins with Deadpool and Wolverine.

As a longtime fan of both the X-Men and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’m thrilled to see the introduction of Mutant characters into the MCU. Up until now, we haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing this unique and diverse group on the same stage as our beloved Avengers. With the arrival of these newcomers, we’re stepping into a new era – the Mutant era.

In the MCU, there have been hints of mutants, such as the appearance of a beloved, fluffy, blue character in “The Marvels” during an after-credits scene. However, mutants have mainly kept a low profile within the franchise. As per Feige’s announcement, this is set to change significantly. With the arrival of Deadpool and Wolverine, mutants will take center stage and mark the beginning of the mutant era in the MCU.

With The Multiverse Saga having been less well-received than its predecessor (combined with the fallout from Kang actor Jonathan Majors, who was found guilty of assault and harassment), it makes sense that Marvel would follow this era with something more obviously crowd-pleasing. TheX-Men remains one of the most beloved superhero franchises in comics, with Feige having even teased who we might see on the team when they do show up later on down the line. He recently said to Gizmodo…

In our usual approach, we’ll likely introduce a blend of familiar and new characters when we delve into this universe, just as we did with Spider-Man and Sony. The success of X-Men ’97 sparked great enthusiasm for us, allowing audiences to reconnect with that world and appreciate its soap opera aspects, which is one of the reasons we’re excited to bring it to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a long-time Marvel fan with a soft spot for both Deadpool and Wolverine, I’m beyond excited about their upcoming multiversal adventure, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Having grown up watching these two iconic characters in various animated series and movies, it’s surreal to see them come together on the big screen.

The US release date for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” a forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) production featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, is set for July 26, 2024, which falls under Phase Five.
