As a film enthusiast who has been fortunate enough to witness the evolution of Kiefer Sutherland‘s career, I can confidently say that his latest project, “Sierra Madre,” promises to be another action-packed masterpiece. Having made his mark on the genre with iconic roles in films like “24” and “The Lost Boys,” Sutherland has proven time and again that he excels at portraying tough, resilient characters.
Kiefer Sutherland is stepping back into the action genre with his new movie titled “Sierra Madre“, and fans are eagerly anticipating this latest addition to his filmography. The gripping thriller, set in Mexico, finds Sutherland as a military officer who gets entangled in a lethal conflict with a local cartel while on leave, creating a high-stakes scenario. Throughout his career spanning over two decades, such gritty action roles have been a staple for Sutherland, and the Justin Chadwick-directed film appears poised to offer another memorable performance that fans will appreciate. The movie’s synopsis goes:
When Captain Jordan Wright (Sutherland) and his team are given time off from their mission to attend a crewmate’s wedding in Mexico, the celebration is suddenly disrupted by a violent attack by a drug cartel on the small village. As Jordan tries to guide his surviving men to safety, a conflict erupts between his squad and the cartel. Now pinned down in the enemy’s lethal stronghold, Captain Wright has no other choice but to initiate a large-scale battle to rescue the only family he has left.
Back in March, it was revealed that Sutherland would be part of the film. Now, we’ve got our initial glimpse of him stepping into his new character. When the news broke, Sutherland himself expressed:
I’m excited to become part of the team working on Sierra Madre under the guidance of director Justin Chadwick. The plot seems incredibly engaging, offering fantastic chances for both emotional depth and dramatic impact. In simpler terms, it looks like we have a truly captivating tale on our hands.
Kiefer Sutherland’s Action Hero History
When Kiefer Sutherland’s name is brought up, it used to evoke memories of films like “The Lost Boys” or “Stand By Me”. Nowadays, people are more likely to think of Jack Bauer, the character from the hit series “24”, first. Since his portrayal of Bauer in 2001, Sutherland has gained a reputation for action-packed movies such as “Phone Booth” where he plays a sniper controlling a man inside a phone booth, and “The Sentinel”, where he stars as a Secret Service agent fighting against a plot to undermine the President.
Following his successful stint on the acclaimed show “24” and its revival series “24: Live Another Day” in 2014, Sutherland achieved another television success with “Designated Survivor”, a political thriller that saw him portraying a Cabinet member who became President after a terrorist attack. This series ran from 2016 to 2019.
Right now, Sierra Madre is shooting scenes in Colombia. Apart from Sutherland, the cast includes Omar Chaparro, known for Detective Pikachu, Laura Osma, Ashton Sanders, who was in The Equalizer 2, Tommy Martinez, Laird Akeo, and Orlando Pineda, who recently appeared in the popular Netflix series Griselda.
The movie does not currently have a release date, but is expected to debut later in 2025.
