As a seasoned gamer who’s been immersed in the world of reality TV and pop culture for far too long, I must say that this news about Kim Kardashian teaming up with Disney’s 20th Television is as exciting as leveling up in a new game. It seems like every time we turn around, she’s breaking barriers and expanding her empire!
Kim Kardashian is formalizing her relationship with Disney’s 20th Television.
The famous TV personality and businesswoman has secured a preliminary agreement with 20th TV, allowing her to create scripted TV series. This deal follows Kardashian’s appearances in the latest season of FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ and the upcoming Hulu series ‘All’s Fair’, which are both produced by 20th (Ryan Murphy included).
In a collaborative venture under the first-look deal, Kardashian joins forces with her friend La La Anthony and Kenya Barris, the creator of ‘Black-ish’, for a television show inspired by Anthony’s popular book “The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex and Happiness”. Titled “Group Chat”, this series is currently being developed. Barris will be responsible for creating the show, while Anthony is expected to take on a starring role.
“Kardashian expressed great enthusiasm for sharing tales that are deeply personal, intricate, and relevant, based on events from her own life and those she’s familiar with. She stated this in a statement after having an amazing experience working with the talented team at 20th Television during ‘American Horror Story: Delicate’. Now, she’s thrilled to start creating her initial television projects with the team led by Karey Burke and Eric Schrier, and continue collaborating with Craig Erwich and his entire Hulu and Disney team.”
Disney Television Group president Erwich and 20th TV head Burke stated, “Kim is a true multi-talented individual who not only understands the current zeitgeist but also contributes to shaping it. Her impressive work in television with our teams, ranging from ‘The Kardashians’ to ‘American Horror Story: Delicate’, and her ability to captivate millions, makes her ideally suited to create and produce stories that will certainly influence popular culture.”
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that I’ll be part of a collaborative project called Group Chat, a co-production between 20th TV and BET Studios. Not only am I involved in this production, but I also have an ownership stake! Alongside me, Kim Kardashian, Anthony, and my good friend Kenya Barris will serve as executive producers. Adam Kassan from Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society will also join us in this creative journey.
At present, Anthony is featured in the series ‘BMF’ on Starz and holds a recurring part in ‘The Chi’ on Showtime. Previous roles include those in ‘Power’, ‘Unforgettable’, and a guest appearance on Barris’ ‘Grown-ish’. The latest works by Barris are ‘Diarra From Detroit’ for BET+ and Netflix’s ‘The Vince Staples Show’.
Deadline first reported the news.
