Jimmy Kimmel used to be funny when he hosted “The Man Show” with Adam Carolla.
From 1999 to 2004, this show was broadcast on Comedy Central. It combined appreciation for aspects that many men find appealing – females, chests, and beer – with a critique of mature men who exhibit immature fraternity behavior.
The scenes frequently concluded with women leaping on a mini-trampoline while dressed in minimal attire. This spectacle served to highlight a preference among men, yet simultaneously suggested that such a taste might be rather immature.
Or more casually:
The final act usually featured ladies bouncing around on a trampoline in not much clothing, appealing to men’s tastes but also hinting at the childishness of this appreciation.
Jimmy Kimmel knows Trump supporters call him a hypocrite for the things he did on ‘The Man Show,’ and he says that’s ‘fair game.’ https://t.co/katGgFPoYz

As a declared feminist, I still found myself enjoying the show. I appreciate humor, and it brought a smile to my face. Admittedly, most of the jokes targeted men rather than the women being objectified.
Currently, with his increased fame and wealth, Jimmy Kimmel appears to have lost his comedic edge. Instead, he functions predominantly as a spokesperson for the Democratic Party.
Previously, in September 2021, he humorously suggested on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show on ABC that unvaccinated individuals using Ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment be denied care in hospitals.
In his initial speech, Kimmel brought up a comment from Dr. Anthony Fauci, who was the leader of the National Institutes of Health and the public figure associated with COVID-19 policies. Fauci suggested that difficult decisions would have to be made concerning healthcare accessibility for some individuals versus others due to the shortage of intensive care unit space in hospitals, a situation which might necessitate rationing care.
Kimmel said, in response:
The decision doesn’t appear difficult to me. If it’s a vaccinated individual experiencing a heart attack, we welcome them. We’re here to help. However, if it’s someone who consumed horse dewormer, regrettably, our efforts would be focused on palliative care due to the seriousness of their condition.
Hilarious!
I’m baffled by the inconsistency some people show. Hospitals provide care for those who make harmful decisions, like drunk drivers, bank robbers, and school shooters, yet refuse care to individuals who choose not to get vaccinated against COVID-19? It seems unfair to me; if you’re willing to put others at risk by not getting vaccinated, then perhaps the same principle should apply – no help for you!
Despite the fact that it was evident by then that the COVID vaccine didn’t prevent infections or transmission, Kimmel believed that refusing the vaccine amounted to such a blatant act of defiance that denial of medical care seemed appropriate.
Currently, the Democratic Party’s stance can be summarized as follows: Deviate even slightly from their progressive ideology, and risk being shunned and removed from mainstream acceptance.
In his most recent stint of being unamusing, Kimmel appears in an extensive Rolling Stone interview, where he characterizes his program as such:
A year ago, I would’ve expressed my aspiration to enlighten those disregarding the news about the realities unfolding, with the hope of instigating change. However, it seems that my efforts fell short before the election. Now, I find myself transforming into a platform where I can express my frustrations more vocally.
That doesn’t sound like a breeding ground for comedy. And it isn’t.
Although Kimmel claims to dislike “cancel culture,” his labeling of Trump supporters as “animals” seems quite similar, as it appears to dismiss or marginalize them. This is essentially dehumanizing, since we typically regard animals as subordinate beings kept in captivity for our use and consumption.
Is this the analogy Kimmel wants to make? Apparently, yes.
Additionally, he points out that during Trump’s leadership, the Republican party tends to concentrate on specific matters that seem to have little impact on most people.
It’s hard for me to grasp why some Americans continue to back his actions, especially when they focus on issues like transgender sports participation, which seem to have minimal impact on most people.
Ok Jimmy, let me explain it to you.
Having been an accomplished gymnast in my past and an advocate for women’s rights today, I am deeply committed to upholding the biological truth and ensuring fairness for female athletic competitors.
You can say it affects no one but that isn’t the case. According to hecheated.org:
A large number of competitions in women’s sports, across categories like individual events and team sports, have been won by individuals who were assigned male at birth but identify as female, such as transgender women, intersex females, and non-binary individuals. This includes more than 3,820 individual events (not including team victories in tournaments) and over 7,952 team sport matches categorized as ‘women’s.’ However, this number is likely much higher because many athletes are yet to be researched, information about numerous competitions and teams is incomplete, and there are still undiscovered athletes.
These male athletes have stolen more than $2 million in prize money from deserving female athletes.
In every category where a woman competes alongside a man, many women are influenced by this competition. For each male athlete, the ripple effect could potentially involve hundreds or even thousands of female athletes.
Additionally, when girls and women are instructed to stay seated and silent while men lead in sports, they often internalize the message that male opinions hold greater importance than their own well-being and fairness in such contexts.
If that isn’t misogyny, I don’t know what is.
Critics of Kimmel’s “The Man Show” accused it of being sexist, but I’d counter that it was more about poking fun at men who behave like mindless, drooling fools upon seeing a scantily-clad woman. However, the push to let males compete in women’s sports and intrude into their private spaces is the epitome of sexism, taking it to new heights.
It’s misogyny in a dress. And it’s still misogyny.
It could be effective for Kimmel to satirize those individuals who intrude into women’s areas and usurp their chances. This approach would undeniably add an edge, and it might even induce laughter since the material seems almost self-generating. To put it simply, recall Jim Carrey as Vero De Milo from “In Living Color,” a comedy show that aired before “The Man Show” from 1990 to 1994.
The humor lay in the fact that it portrayed a realistic absurdity: Female athletes in the 1980s were using performance-boosting substances, and they appeared undeniably altered. Carrey’s character, De Milo, was depicted as a female bodybuilder who had been abusing steroids, featuring an unusually flat chest and an unnatural deep voice.
Art created by a state is often criticized because its primary purpose is not to entertain, provoke thought, or evoke emotions, but rather to uphold a regime’s ideology and policies. For instance, after the 1917 Russian Revolution, films produced with backing from the State were primarily used to reinforce Communist ideals, while during the 1930s and 40s, art sponsored by Nazi Germany served to promote their fascist agenda.
Kimmel’s role as a representative for the Democrats seems less humorous now. Perhaps he could learn from the humor used in old Carrey skits. The situation surrounding Will/Lia Thomas, who resembles the statue of De Milo, competing in the women’s category is quite absurd and open to satire.
In my personal opinion, during his film critique, he could perhaps express a slightly different viewpoint regarding those who wholeheartedly embrace the idea that transgender women are women. However, given his character, I find it rather improbable for him to mock or deride this belief system.
Jennifer Sey is a writer, movie maker, ex-President of Brand at Levi’s, and founder of XX-XY Athletics – the unique athletic brand that advocates for women’s sports. Her upcoming film, “Generation COVID,” delves into the harm inflicted upon children due to prolonged lockdowns as a result of the pandemic.
