On June 26th, Kingdomino, the digital version of the popular board game by Bruno Cathala & Blue Orange Games, will be available on both Android and iOS devices. From my perspective, Kingdomino is among the games I’m most excited for its upcoming release. Often, it can be challenging to create distinct board game adaptations, as many prefer to stick closely to the original mechanics. However, Kingdomino seems poised to handle this transition gracefully by transforming the original into a 3D version.

The goal is straightforward: Construct interlinked territories, extending from your castle, to earn the highest number of points. These territories could be fields of swaying wheat, dense forests, or bustling coastal fisheries. To score maximum points, you need to connect your domino-like tiles strategically. In quick 10-15 minute games, create a kingdom that will endure over time.

In my opinion, what sets Kingdomino apart from its traditional counterpart is that it maximizes the use of digital technology. The game tiles come alive with Non-Player Characters (NPCs) moving around and carrying out their daily activities. This allows players not only to appreciate the strategic aspect of building their kingdom but also to observe it grow and prosper in real time.
