Warning: SPOILERS for the Daredevil: Born Again episode “Sic Semper Systema”
It’s been a decade since Vincent D’Onofrio first took on the role of Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While many of us appreciate his portrayal as a formidable villain, it’s fair to say that he doesn’t typically blend well with humor. However, the recent episode of Daredevil: Born Again, scheduled for 2025 television, bucked this trend by providing the funniest moment yet from D’Onofrio’s Kingpin performances. To make things even more intriguing, it was revealed that this scene had to be re-filmed for an extraordinary reason. This hilarious twist serves as the perfect finishing touch on this comical turn of events.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my delight when recalling the episode of “Sic Semper Systema,” which brought back Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. But what truly had me in stitches was a special moment exclusive to Disney+ subscribers – Mayor Fisk enduring an off-key children’s choir performing “We Built This City” right before him. I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the scene, and my admiration for it has only deepened after learning from Jeffrey Nachmanoff, director of “Daredevil: Born Again,” why the initial attempt didn’t quite hit the mark.
The initial version we presented had such perfect harmony that they requested a re-recording, as it was too pitch-perfect for their needs. They wanted to include some off-key child singers since they had hired professional vocalists… And the producers rightly stated, ‘No, no, no, the essence lies in its imperfections. This is painful to listen to for him.’
As a cinema enthusiast, I must say, it was challenging for even someone with an ear for music like myself to endure those kids’ off-key rendition of Starship’s 1985 debut single. Yet, for Wilson Fisk, a man well-known for his anger issues and intolerance for wasted time, the discomfort seemed almost palpable. You could sense his frustration when the performance ended, but he managed to muster a polite “wonderful” and complimented their “talent.” However, it was clear that as soon as the teacher mentioned another song, he was eager to make a swift exit.
To keep up with the latest episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again” and revisit the original “Daredevil” series, consider subscribing to Disney+’s streaming service. The new ad-supported plan comes at $9.99 per month, while opting for an ad-free experience will cost you $15.99 a month. If you prefer, go for the yearly subscription and save 16%, paying just $159.99 for 12 months of service. Check out the deal here!
Including some children singing slightly off-key in the recording was a shrewd decision. If they had sung perfectly, Fisk might still have felt uneasy, but not quite as intensely. By the way, matters escalated even further when the New York mayor got involved.

Even though I’m deeply affected by the departure of Foggy from Daredevil, I can’t help but appreciate Elden Henson for casually dropping Kevin Feige’s name in his jokes about what happened.
In a surprising turn of events during Daredevil: Born Again Episode 2, I was taken aback when Matt Murdock let out a powerful scream. Charlie Cox, the actor who portrays him, shares the reason behind this emotional scene.
Shortly following the publication of the BB Urich article labeling him a “union buster,” Wilson Fisk was informed by Sheila Rivera. Being highly displeased about leaks within his administration, he didn’t rush to identify the source right away (it turned out to be Daniel Blake, though unintentionally). Instead, he had an obligation to attend an event at the Latvian Cultural Center for Latvian Heritage Day. Coincidentally, the choir was performing a rendition of “We Built This City,” but this time sung in the Latvian language.
There are only five episodes remaining in the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” and I’m sure this experience will be etched among my favorite moments from the series. Here’s hoping that the second season manages to replicate a scene with the same level of humor, as it’s delightful watching Kingpin get into such predicaments.
