In 2005, Bollywood star Aamir Khan tied the knot with director Kiran Rao. However, after 16 years of shared life, they announced their separation in 2021, leaving many taken aback. Lately, Kiran disclosed her parents’ reaction when she expressed her wish to marry Aamir. They were ‘shocked’, as they thought she had grand ambitions and feared that his celebrity status might eclipse her own.
During an interview with ANI, Kiran Rao candidly discussed her marriage with Aamir Khan and revealed that it came as a surprise to her family. She expressed that they were taken aback, even startled, by the unexpected turn of events. In their view, she was someone with great potential, brimming with aspirations to accomplish many things. They had reservations about her joining forces with someone as influential as Aamir, fearing it might overshadow her own dreams and ambitions.
In a recent conversation, the director of Laapataa Ladies disclosed that Aamir Khan has never set any demands towards her. Instead, she mentioned that he has consistently shown contentment with her work and encouraged her to remain authentic.
Additionally, she commended the actor’s family for being exceptionally welcoming, and discussed how family ties deepen organically. Furthermore, she noted that when one becomes familiar with the family, the connection endures strongly because they embrace people based on their true selves, not merely their positions or roles.
Kiran continued by discussing feeling overshadowed by marrying a well-known person, but eventually finding the strength to reclaim her unique voice, both personally and professionally. She acknowledged that Aamir allowed her the freedom to develop, which gave her the courage to celebrate her individuality while maintaining their relationship and family ties.
In spite of their separation, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan maintain a robust relationship, both in personal and professional aspects. This collaboration showcases a level of maturity from both parties that enables them to tackle difficulties. To summarize, “Aamir and I will always stand by each other,” she stated.
