Kirsten Dunst Surprises Fans & Recreates Her Bring It On Cheer

As a seasoned moviegoer with decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that Cinespia’s double feature screening of Kirsten Dunst‘s iconic movies, “Bring It On” and “The Virgin Suicides,” was an absolute delight! The fact that the star herself made a surprise appearance to introduce the films added an extra layer of excitement and nostalgia.

In summer 2024, Cinespia, an organization known for showcasing classic films at renowned venues, arranged a sleepover event with a double feature. As part of their summer lineup, they invited fans of Kirsten Dunst to Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a cozy night out. The featured films were two contrasting movies from 2000 starring Dunst: “Bring It On” and “The Virgin Suicides”. To make the event even more special, before the screenings began, fans were delighted when Kirsten Dunst herself stepped onto the stage to introduce both movies.

According to Deadline’s report, Kirsten Dunst made a surprise appearance at the “Kirsten Dunst Slumber Party” over the weekend. She took the stage and performed her iconic cheer from Bring It On, saying, “I’m Ta-Ta-Ta-Torrance, your captain Torrance! Let’s go, Toros!” She expressed her gratitude to Cinespia and its founder, John Wyatt, before introducing the first film. She also shared that she was looking forward to watching the movies, as she hadn’t seen them with an audience since she was a teenager.

Oh my goodness, this is absolutely mind-blowing! I can hardly believe what I’m seeing. With my loved ones by my side, I’m excited to share this experience with you all. It’s been years since I watched these films in a theater, and it feels like a dream come true. I am truly grateful for the opportunity.

Having kickstarted my acting journey at a tender age in “Little Women” (1994), I found myself drawn towards headlining roles in teen movies. I had the privilege to portray Torrance Shipman, the captain of the cheerleading squad, striving to secure their sixth national championship in “Bring It On”. The movie chronicles our team’s struggles and triumphs as we face off against the rival school’s captain (Gabrielle Union), aided by a fresh recruit (Eliza Dushku). Known for its enduring appeal, this film was a box office hit, spawning a franchise with six direct-to-video sequels. However, each subsequent installment failed to retain the original cast members.

Up next at Cinespia’s twin bill was Sofia Coppola’s initial directorial work, “The Virgin Suicides“, adapted from the book of the same title, marking the beginning of Coppola and Dunst’s collaborative efforts. This poignant and critically adored film narrates the lives of the five Lisbon sisters, a well-off family in Detroit during the 1970s. Dunst assumes the role of the eldest sister, Lux Lisbon. Subsequently, she portrayed Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, propelling her further into fame.

In collaboration, Dunst and Coppola worked on “Marie Antoinette” (2006) and “The Beguiled” (2017). Some well-known roles by Dunst include those in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004), “Melancholia” (2011), “The Two Faces of January” (2014), “Hidden Figures” (2017), and “The Power of the Dog” (2021). This last performance garnered her an Academy Award nomination. A four-time Golden Globe nominee, Dunst’s latest role was the lead in “Civil War,” a dystopian thriller considered a “cautionary tale,” which was released earlier in 2024 and set a new box office record for an A24 film.

Cinespia’s summer catalog of movie screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery continues throughout the next few weekends with The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Shining, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Chicago. The final summer screening, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, will be on Saturday, September 14, as a tribute to the late Paul Reubens. You can find screenings and events around the country at Cinespia.
