Kit Harington Says “Mistakes Were Made” Making a “Rushed” ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of Westeros and its political intrigue, I can’t help but feel a tinge of sympathy for Kit Harington. The man played Jon Snow, one of the most iconic characters on television, for nearly a decade. His portrayal of the reluctant leader brought the series to life, and we all grew with him as he navigated the treacherous waters of the Seven Kingdoms.

Actor Kit Harington speaks candidly about his emotions surrounding the last season of HBO’s hit series, “Game of Thrones.”

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, admitted that errors occurred during the crafting of the final chapter in this worldwide sensation. He hinted at a potential haste in its production, but also expressed doubt about whether there could have been another viable choice due to the extreme fatigue experienced by the cast and crew.

“In a recent interview with GQ, Kit Harington shared his thoughts about the conclusion of ‘Thrones’. He suggested that maybe it was a flaw because by then, we were all so drained that continuing any longer would’ve been challenging. Therefore, some viewers felt it was hasty, and he might concur. However, he questions if there was another option. When he looks at photos from the final season, he sees himself looking tired and depleted, suggesting he didn’t have the strength for another season.”

In response to the criticism about the final episode of the series, Harington commented, “Each viewer has the right to their own opinion. Personally, I believe there were narrative errors in the closing chapters, perhaps some questionable decisions that didn’t quite hit the mark.”

Additionally, Harington touched upon the abandoned HBO project called ‘Snow’, a spinoff from ‘Thrones’. Although he chose not to reveal the plot details (“as it could spark a lot of discussion online”), he did share his reasons for considering it and why it didn’t come to fruition in the end.

As a gamer, I remember being approached by HBO with an intriguing proposition: “What do you think about this idea?” They asked. My initial response was a firm “no.” However, as I pondered over it, the potential for a compelling narrative about a soldier post-war sparked my interest. I felt there might be untold stories worth sharing in a narrow yet impactful way. After several years of back-and-forth brainstorming, we couldn’t quite strike the right chord. Nothing seemed exciting enough. In the end, I decided to step back and admit, “If we continue to develop this further, we could potentially create something subpar. And that’s definitely not what any of us want.”

He mentioned that he aims to avoid being typecast as his “Game of Thrones” character. In his own words, “It’s crucial for me to perform well so that audiences don’t just recognize me as Jon Snow.”

Industry season three debuted on HBO on Sunday.
