‘Knock at the Cabin’ Scribes Tackling Horror Thriller ‘Wilderness Reform’ for Paramount (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror and thrillers, I can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation upon hearing about the adaption of ‘Wilderness Reform’. The combination of Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, who have proven their mettle in the realm of suspenseful storytelling with ‘Knock at the Cabin’, and Lindsey Anderson Beer, whose debut in horror with ‘Pet Sematary: Bloodline’ was a resounding success, promises an exhilarating ride.

I’m thrilled to share that I, as a devoted fan, am excited to announce that Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, the creative minds behind M. Night Shyamalan’s chilling thriller “Knock at the Cabin,” have been chosen for adapting Paramount Pictures’ spine-tingling horror-thriller “Wilderness Reform.” This captivating project is based on the novel of the same name penned by Harrison Query and Matt Query. I can hardly wait to see their unique take on this coming-of-age tale!

Lindsey Anderson Beer, who recently made her directorial debut in horror filmmaking with ‘Pet Sematary: Bloodline’ for the studio, is currently producing another feature film through her own production company, Lab Brew, under a first-look agreement with Paramount Pictures.

Also producing is Scott Glassgold through his production company Ground Control.

The narrative unfolds in a wilderness retreat for troubled adolescents, where a 13-year-old boy named Ben finds himself due to a rehabilitation plan. Despite the counselors’ overly cheerful demeanor, there’s an unsettling undercurrent to the camp. The boys Ben bonds with appear to possess unusual abilities, which proves useful since they’ll need every resource to solve the enigma surrounding strange occurrences and disappearances, as well as the darkness hidden within the very heart of the camp itself.

The book is often compared to the works of Stephen King, particularly those with a classic feel, and it tackles the subject matter of the loss of innocence.

Lab Brew, helmed by executives Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken, has numerous ventures, some original and others based on intellectual properties, scattered throughout town. Currently, they are working on an American Girl feature for Paramount, with Beer also set to write and direct Optimize for the same studio. Additionally, Lab Brew is collaborating with UCP and James Wan’s Atomic Monster on a fresh take of the 1964 classic The Munsters, titled 1313. Beer’s Pet Sematary movie made its debut as the top title on Paramount+ and shattered the streaming service’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original film within the first 30 days of its release in the U.S.

Desmond and Sherman are primarily recognized for collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan on the 2023 thriller “Knock at the Cabin,” featuring Dave Bautista and Jonathan Groff. They made their mark in screenwriting by selling their unique, Black List-winning script for “Harry’s All-Night Hamburgers” to Warner Bros., amidst a fierce bidding war.

The duo is repped by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham.
