As a devoted admirer of Kodi Smit-McPhee, I must confess that his life and career trajectory are as captivating as his on-screen performances. The young actor has proven time and again that he is not only versatile but also fearless when it comes to tackling challenging roles and venturing into uncharted territories.

On a particularly bustling evening at Palazzo del Cinema in Venice, Oscar-nominated actor Kodi Smit-McPhee found himself the epitome of activity, potentially only rivaled by a tearful Angelina Jolie or her security detail. This was due to back-to-back showings of his forthcoming ventures at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday night.

The actor, famed for his Oscar-nominated role in Jane Campion’s Western drama “The Power of the Dog”, made a stylish appearance at Sala Grande wearing a stunning black outfit designed by Versace from their 2024 ready-to-wear collection. Styled by Emma Kalfus, the ensemble consisted of slim-fit pants, an adorned jacket, and sunglasses reminiscent of a movie star. He accessorized with a silver necklace and polished patent leather boots.

Smit-McPhee made quite an impression on the red carpet at his debut for the role opposite Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, and Sacha Baron Cohen in Alfonso Cuaron’s Apple TV+ mini-series titled “Disclaimer“. In this series, McPhee plays the son of Blanchett and Baron Cohen’s characters. The plot revolves around an acclaimed journalist (Blanchett) who discovers that she is the inspiration for a novel that could potentially expose her hidden truths.

Shortly afterwards, he returned to confront the throng of photographers for the global debut of the biopic Maria, directed by Pablo Larraín and featuring Angelina Jolie as the legendary opera diva Maria Callas. He plays Mandrax, a character who could be either an arts journalist or a figment of Callas’ imagination.

Following the acclaim for his fashionable outfits during The Power of the Dog’s awards season journey, McPhee discussed his approach to style and sources of inspiration with The Hollywood Reporter.

“He’s deeply captivated by surrealism, modernism, and abstract art, a fascination that has been with him since his early days, perhaps even before. His life is filled with intense dream memories, and he’s always been acutely aware of the surreal, almost psychedelic nature of the dream world. This curiosity has driven him to explore different aspects of art, spirituality, and philosophy. He aspires to incorporate this unique perspective into his identity and use it to shape his image. For him, fashion is an expression that doesn’t require a strict definition. He understands the importance of maintaining his brand identity as Kodi Smit-McPhee, the actor, while also allowing the world to perceive him in this distinct way.”
