In an interview with Hauterrfly, Tillotama Shome shared her experience of being molested in Delhi which left her feeling extremely uncomfortable.
While waiting for a bus in Delhi, the dark was setting in when a car with six men pulled up beside the actress. She sensed discomfort and distanced herself slightly. The men began whistling and catcalling, and one of them threw a pebble at her. Suddenly aware of the danger, the actress considered fleeing but knew they could easily overtake her. Instead, she remained in the middle of the road and hailed a ride from an approaching vehicle.
As several cars drove by without stopping, Tillotama spotted one with a medical symbol. Trusting that the driver was a doctor for her safety, she entered the vehicle and took a seat up front. However, her trust was soon shattered when the driver attempted to inappropriately touch her hand. Instinctively, she reacted by striking him. The unexpected incident caused the driver to lose control of the car, and he demanded that she exit.
Reflecting on that harrowing event, I cannot help but relive the fear that gripped me to the core. Shivers still run down my spine as I recall being caught off guard and feeling utterly powerless. Yet, in the depths of my terror, an innate survival instinct took over, fueling my determination to resist and ultimately escape from harm’s way.
